This sounds a bit silly, but do you think its okay to visit someone in hospital and take Ollie with me? My mum told me not too as he would catch bugs, but am not sure thats actually true? (Background info - its my grandmother in hospital with a heart problem, and although she will be fine, I would really like to go and see her, but know she would understand if it wasnt good to take Ollie with me)   |

It depends on what ward you take him too. I would imagine that since your grandmother has a heart problem they have her roomed with people without contagious bugs to ensure she doesn't get any secondary illness.

No problem here, I took Andrew with me when he was a baby and Josh went in when he was a baby too. |

I'd say it's fine. I probably wouldn't take a tiny bub to the childrens hospital coz it's infectious germs central, but a cardiac ward is usually pretty safe and if you are still breastfeeding Oliver he's still getting immunity from that as well.

I took Alex to the Adult Cancer ward when she was only 8 hours old to see my Dad. She was fine. I did talk to my midwife and the nurses on duty as well both said she would be ok as she would still have my immune system.
The nurses on the ward were so excited to see a brand new baby because they only ever see the other end of life. It made their day.

The only wards you can't take a baby into are neonates (unless they are the baby) and intensive care. |

Yep, it would be absolutely fine to take Ollie. And I'm sure it would make your grandmother's day to see the both of you!
Hope she gets well soon |

   What Bayley said.
I think kids are great to have around places like that to lighten the mood.

 Hope she gets better soon!

I would take Joy if it was my Dad, coz it would cheer him up no end. Not many bugs floating around a cardiac unit |
