Topic: Whats a reasonable $ for a 2nd hand cot? Posted: 09 May 2006 at 7:39pm |
Hey,
We're looking at options for a second hand cot at the moment. One option is from B's cousin, a wooden cotbed that was bought new for around $650.00 (without mattress) from the wooden cot factory. It is around 4.5 years olf and is in good condition.
She hasn't come up with a price yet as to what she wants for it and I'm wondering if any of you coud give me an idea what you think would be fair. I really suck at working this stuff out!

I'm not sure if what we bought ours for is really 'realistic' as far as second hand pricing goes, it was from a friend of my mums - they only used it for two years and is in absolutely pristine condition, originally from Baby Factory (Settler model I think) at around $600 not including mattress, and we paid them $250 for it AND got an innnersprung mattress for it as well (from the same people). I would say for the cot alone, on TM for example, $300 or so is probably a good starting point? Not too sure though, sorry !

We paid $260 for a new one at Farmers. So long as it doesn't have Bora or something like that and is in reasonably good condition there is no reason why a old one can't be stripped and painted. My SIL did that and to be honest the old cot looks better than mine.

Hey Paws
I bought my neighbours one - it was $700.00 new (2 years ago), and is in immaculate condition, with just a few (really few!) scratches.
We are buying it from her for $500, including mattress, all blankets (including 2 or 3 100% wool ones which retail for $79.95 and some cotton ones) and linen, mattress protector and cot bumper. Also, the stuff has ben extremely well looked after.

That's cheaper than the ladle just about Ginger
Maya's cot was $299 new (Baby Factory Alpha cot) and the ones I've just bought for the twins were $499 each (I got a discount on top of that for buying two), they're the Baby-something Sleigh cots from Farmers.

I bought my one off of trade-me for $80.00, gave it a light sand a new coat of white paint that cost me $10 and it looks pretty good if you ask me (but I could be biased lol).

I have been looking on Trade Me and the second hand cots generally go for around $300-400 (including mattress) but for a new cot they generally cost around $700 (excluding mattress). Depends what type you are looking for too.

Well I think we'll offer her $300.00 - I don't want the mattress because we'll be buying a new one of course.
If B's cousin doesn't get back to us Baby City have a good basic cot on special for $200.00 so we may run with that option.
