   Hi Firststork
I had Mary-Claire Speyer, who I found to be fantastic. Not sure if she is still taking first time mums (a common problem I found), but you can only ask. Good luck

I have an OB but ive heard Mary-Claire is awesome too. If you end up without one (though unlikely) the community team that works thrugh Hutt Hosp are fantastic. They did all my after care and i really liked them and am looking forward to have the same ppl this time

   Hi firststork
my midwife is Julie Thompson, and she is just fabulous, can't reccommend her highly enough She is very laid back, and doesn't sugar coat things when you ask her questions. She was also amazing when I was in labour, and right through pregnancy. She has 3 kids of her own so has been through what we're going through.
And when I was having trouble with breastfeeding DD, she gave me the most fantastic help and I got it straight away after that!
She is definitely taking first time mums (I was one!) and is just amazing xxx
 Good luck!

   Thanks ladies
Im only just 4 weeks pregnant so really really early - my poor head is spinning so much info and now i dont know if I should wait a month or so to contact a midwife or if I should do it straight away? I've read a few reviews where some places have told women to call back when they are 12 weeks?? So Im a bit put off ringing now to be honest hehe I'll call next week I think:) Try a few out

when i was due in may last year i remember ppl saying that they weighted til 6 weeks and a few ppl missed out cos the MW's were really busy. it might pay to get onto it strait away and risk getting turned away. at least that way you are in the books and most ppl will take you on early, esp if they need to organise nuchals scans or anything

I had Sharon Graham from BirthWorks in Taita. She was awesome I also know of a few others who recommend her.

I had Alison Wightman, she is really awesome and her backup Lesley Gummer is fantastic too, Lesley has a clinic based in Lower Hutt along with some other ladies, Alison does home visits within certain areas, but if you are too far away she asks you to come to her for prenatal most of the time but sometimes she comes to you. I plan on using Alison again for my next baby and have recommended her to my friend who is now 20 weeks pregnant and she loves her too, I have heard a couple of bad things about another but don't want to write publicly so PM me if you like... she hasn't been named on her so far

I had Christine Griffiths and she was awesome - she is based in WHitby but does visits in the Hutt and delivers in Hutt Hospital.

Yep both fantastic midwife's. Used Lesley when we were living in Upper Hutt. I think you will find most of the Lower Hutt & Upper Hut midwife's are ok. Don't hear too many bad stories.
We deal with them all the time as we provide antenatal classes in the Hutt Valley.
Make sure you get a midwife early as they are in hot demand and can only take so many woman at a time!!

I agree with Birth Power on finding a MW early - although you are technically out of the high period of December / January when it is essentially quite busy for births (now what was happening 9 mths prior that alot of people got pregnant)...but I have heard that Feb - April can be quite busy too.

Our November/ December class is always fully booked and we normally add an extra class. People in these classes are due towards the end of December, January and early Feburary, which means it is probably hard to find a midwife if you are due around that time.

Thanks for your suggestions:) I called Julie Tompson today troutpout and she was really nice, we had a laugh at how early I had called her but she agreed better to get in early, got an appointment with her next Friday, she said she might be on holiday on my due date (as its the school holidays) she said we'd talk about it when we meet up next week, what have others experienced??? Who is Julies back up troutpout??
