My wee man has been in his cloth nappies for 8 weeks now and I have hardly had any leaks - last week however nearly every nappy leaked and im loosing the cloth love!
I have got:
Prefolds and Bummis covers
itti bittis
swaddlebees
fuzzi's
monkey doodlez
They all seem to be leaking out the side up the top around his waste all of a sudden.
Any suggestions???

Do they all still seem to fit well? He hasn't suddenly grown out of them has he? (Would seem unlikely that he'd grow out of everything at once though.)
Otherwise it could be some sort of build up? Do you use a barrier cream on his bum without a separate liner? One way of testing if it's an absorbency issue is to get a clean nappy, get some warm water and tip it onto the nappy, and watch to see if it soaks in or if it beads and runs off. If that happens, could be time to strip your nappies?
How often do you change them? He might have suddenly started peeing more often - are they soaked through when you change them or are they mostly ok and just leaking out the top?

He is currently 8 weeks.
I change him around 3 hourly however they have been leaking 1-2 hourly!
I have never used any creams apart from cornflour powder which should be fine?
Perhaps it is a washing powder build up, I only use ecostore powder however sometimes I put the nappies in with the clothes and therefore use full strength.
Definantly hasn't grown out of them. The inserts seem to be mostly dry but they have leaked out the top.

It sounds possibly like a build up. And regardless of what you wash with the nappies I understand you are not supposed to use more than 1/2 the usual quantity of soap. Wouldn't hurt to strip and see - or do the manual test as suggested by Weegee.
I use Fuzzis only - and like you had no issues with leaks. Then all of a sudden every nappy leaked. for me though it was my girl suddenly wetting more - the inserts were drenched and so I upped the inserts (using 2 now for each change) and we've had no leaks since. However if I only put 1 insert in I can almost guarantee she is going to leak before the 3 hours is up ...  .. and she does.

I would think Cornflour powder would build up when it got wet as well. I'd definitely try stripping them while we still have sunny days.

Ok so I did the water test and it looks like they are in definate need of a good strip.
I had a new insert to compair it to - the new one soaked it in straight away whereas the other inserts the water ran across the top before soaking it in.
So the question is. What is a good way to strip them and do i just do the inserts or the nappies aswell?

Ok and another silly question - do you stip the nappies as your usual wash or do you wash them clean as per usual then go through the stripping process??
Might have to use disposibles for a day because i really want to do them all at the same time.

I've used the vinegar & baking soda method with great success on both my pockets & inserts (I only had to do it once in a year).
1. Hot wash, just water.
2. Cold wash, 1/2 cup each of white vinegar & baking soda
2. Cold wash, 1/2 cup white vinegar
3. Cold wash, just water.

I have a top-loader and I just throw the vinegar & baking soda in the main drum compartment where the nappies go.

Baking soda wont bubble, so should be fine in a front loader.. I would think.

I always put them in together in my top loader so I imagine you can do the same in a front loader, assuming it all fits?
