We mostly buy what is the cheapest, and I actually prefer quite a lot of Pam's stuff anyhow, like their sposies and wipes. Also now that I have to be strictly gluten-free, their website is very helpful for finding "safe" foods to eat so that would keep my loyalty too.

Our non-negotiables are: milo (sadly for me, I cannot have milo anymore though!), baked beans & spaghetti, (budget is just yuk). Also I like the "simply the best" choc chip biscuits at Pak n Save, they really are! (Sadly, also gluteny though!)

We buy a lot of homebrand and no frills stuff etc. From what I understand a lot is made by the normal companies and packaged under homebrand etc.

Most housbrand products are made by branded companies - some exactly the same thing (eg cheese) and others a lower grade of product or less features than the branded product.
Budget cocoa pops are actually made by a cereal company that doesn't have a (perceived) unhealthy chocolate cereal in their range. Some products are made overseas. All comes down to personal prefernce/taste in the end.

Agreed Fats - the SR mint slice bickies are yummy!

One other thing we don't buy is Homebrand juice. The SR one is OK, and so is the Pams, but the HB one is yucky.

I used to buy budget and pams - and still buy the odd thing like bread that is made here. But after the made in China thing came into the limelight, I've been checking those products and lots of them are now made in China

I buy trident tinned tomatoes as they are made in Italy.
They are often on special for 89 cents so I grab them then.

Other than that, I try and buy locally made products. I make a lot of my food from scratch so we don't really have to buy much prepackaged food.

Prior to being a Mum I was totally brand loyal regardless of the price!

Now we are trying to watch our pennies, I am trying the Homebrand items and so far I am happy to buy the pasta, milk and cheese Homebranded stuff! DH is a tomato sauce/baked beans/spagetti fiend and it all HAS to be Watties!!

As for toilet paper, I am probably a bit of a "snob" but I can't stand that single ply stuff that just disintegrates on contact with a tiny drop of liquid

A little off topic, but I also buy fruit and veges from the Green grocer, they taste much nicer and are always alot cheaper than the supermarket!

I was happy with buying the budget pasta until one of the brands spagetti was on special so got that instead, and man it is soo much nicer.

We generally buy SR, Pams and Budget, although prefer SR bread and Pak n Save don't do SR so that is a bummer.

Don't buy the budget brand tined salmon though, it was not the best.....

dishwashing liquid - always brand as I find the chaper ones are a false economy - sure they are cheaper, but you use four times as much.

spaghetti - I agree - watties akk the way
peanut butter - Lewis chose - i don't do peanut butter.

mostly I don't care. we don't have a lot of food apart from basics, veges and meat.

I hear you on that one, we tried the Homebrand one this month and you have to use so much liquid to get the tiniest bit of food off the plate!! Definately going back to a branded d/w liquid!!

Ours evens out .. I buy signature range lemonade (as its yum) and other "el cheapo" items .. however DH will only have heinz ketchup which is expensive!

So the branded items in our trolley eat up any savings made by buying homebrands.

Always meadow lea
Always Dilmah teabags and nescafe coffee
Always Sanitarium peanut butter as DH won't eat any other brand!

Things like tinned tomatoes, i will get whatever is cheapest, same with tinned tuna (except HB or Budget) Pams is nice
Milk I get Budget or HB or Pams
toilet paper is either Purex or Cottonsoft
Cheese and butter whatever is cheapest (butter just for baking)
I try to get Edmonds or Champion flour when it is on sale
Sugar whatever is cheapest.

Do many use the green reusuable bags? I always leave them and a load of plastic bags in the car when I go to P&S, but often forget for little trips to Countdown etc

Im a big fan of Home Brand and SR, almost everything we can buy is the cheap versions. I really like the HB nappies, and dont even mind the toilet paper.
I really dont like the other Budget brands though, you really do seem to be getting what you are paying for.
