Last night DH woke me up to inform me that the fire brigade is on the way and I needed to get out of the house.

A light fitting was on fire And we are so pissed at lighting direct. They sold us a bulb ages ago that was mislabeled. So instead of putting a 150watt halogen in, it was a 300watt so at midnightish our place was filling with smoke.

Fire guys said we were lucky we called when we did as if we had left it much longer it would have really caught fire properly.

But we now have a big hole in the ceiling, the wiring is f**ked, carpet is f**ked, the house absolutely stinks!!

So we are gonna need a sparky, builder, painter, carpet layer, some sort of cleaning of all the curtains etc. The only guy we won't need is a damn plumber.

The only upside is BNZ seem to be good so far, just waiting on a couple of guys who are gonna come around today. One is a carpet dude to have a look at the carpet and one is an actual assessor.

*sigh* it was all we needed!

That sucks Stacey!
Thank goodness Richard was onto it and got you out in time, and than goodness you didn't have a wee bub in the house breathing in the smoke!
Glad you're all ok!

We are gonna have a major go at the lighting place because we still have the box that clearly states its a 150 watt light bulb. I just wonder how many other bulbs they have completely mislabeled and people have!

Glow -no we don't use energy savers. They hurt my eyes and the light fittings that we have don't fit them anyway - most of our lights require special bulbs like halogen or those cone shaped ones

Yea they get hot aye? Putting out more heat than light.
Was it a halogen tube? Suspended/hanging from you ceiling or fixed on wall?
Naughty lighting place!!

Ours dont seem to get to hot actually but being the wrong wattage it must have got extremely hot. It's fixed to the ceiling. Gonna lay the mega guilts on lighting direct tomorrow! I hope no one else had mislabeled lights!!!!!!

So far though we are impressed with BNZ. Already had someone in to clean the ash and soot off the carpet so at least we can walk around without worrying about moving it further around the house. And they will deodorise the house for us probably after the builder and that have been in. And apparently we should hear from an assessor shortly.

Wow, that would have been so scary. Thank goodness Dh was awake and able to get you out in time, things could have been so much worse! I am so pleased that the BNZ seem to be good about it all for you - makes it a little easier to think they will sort if out for you asap.

Go and have a really good go at lighting direct, they are so lucky that it wasn't any worse than it was! It will be interersting to see what they do to fix the problem!
