So I am trying to get Blake to have a sip of water here and there!!! I have used a Sipper Cup to save mucking around with bottles. (which he wont have anyway).

So far he has held it, laughed at me with it in his mouth, chewed on it, thrown it away BUT NEVER had a suck???? I cant remember what to do?

Any ideas?

I originally tried a sipper cup with Alyssa but she wouldn't suck either - I read in one of my books that bottle fed babies tend to know how to use them better and breast fed babies are often good at drinking from a cup normally as it is closer to the mouth action they use when breastfeeding. I ended up taking the lid off and now she drinks really well from a cup like a grown up as long as I help her hold and tip it.

Try putting a few drops of milk into it? Otherwise you could let him drink out of the bottom of a straw every now and then.

If he is still exclusively or mostly breastfed, he shouldn't need extra water for hydration this summer... if that was your thinking?

I'm pretty sure it took Han a little while to get used to the idea of the sippy cup... so keep on trucking and I'm sure he'll get it

It can help to take the leak proof valve out too (if it has one) coz that stops the water flowing, that way it will just spill into his mouth when he tips it up and he doesn't have to suck to get it out. Then when he gets that sussed put the valve back in.Worked with Maya although she still refused milk froma cup and would only take water.

Olivia was like that at 5.5 months, I left it for another month then started offering her water from a cup. Now she will have it from wherever, bottle, cup, nipple. Introduce lots of variety, some kids don't like having to "work for it" hehe!

Erin is only just coming to 'grips' with her sippy cup now LOL She got a bit of a fright when she discovered that water actually comes out of it I think maybe it's just perseverance? Mind you, Erin also seems to like and able to handle (just) the mini pump bottles if I squeeze gently for her...

Anastasia got the hang of a straw before the sippy cup just had to watch when she had it as it didnt have a valve on it, she also loves drinking from Ashlyns bottles (like pump bottles) I bought one for each of them with screw top so only open Anastasia's a little so only comes out very slow and she has to suck to get more out

I got addison a tommee tippee cup that has a squeezy rubber sipper part, all she has to do is basically chew on it and water comes out and she loves it.
