Okay so Rhiannon is 16wks old now, so.....

How do i know when its time to start feeding her solids?

How do i know when its time to start sitting her up in her pram?

Her cot is one of those ones that works as a bassinet as well, so how do i know when its time to move it down to become a cot again (we have her in a sleep t).

How do i know when she is starting to teeth (she is dribbling a lot, in fact if i have her on my lap within about 10mins the bib is soaked from all the wiping)

When do i take the headsupport thing out from her carseat?

Rhiannon can hold her head up and has been able to almost since birth, we do support her head at all when she is sitting on us.

Thanks for answering my questions, i put a call into my plunket nurse 2 days ago and havent heard anything back...and im not due to see her for anothere 7 wks and i havent heard anything from the Karitane nurse who i was suppose to see this week

When she shows interest in the food that you are eating is a good time to try starting solids, also after you feed her and she wants more is another good sign.

If she can support her head then you could look at taking out the head rest in the carseat so long as shes not tiny and the headrest is helping her in the carseat. In the pram put it up the next time you go out and see if she likes it. If she falls asleep just put it down again.

We put Andrew into his cot at 2 months only cos he ws too long for the bassinette. If you thing you are ready for her to be in the cot move her, that one is personal choice.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

solids - they say between 4-6 weeks... signs are interest in food, grabbing at your plate. so your a way off that yet... the later the better, cause once you start on real food thats when the work starts.

with the rest, size and how well they can support themselves come into it. but dont rush it, baby wont be in a hurry either.

not sure what you mean about the carseat. if it is a capsule or a proper seat. if a seat and it is the insert that comes with the seat you are talking about that only goes when they go to forward facing.

Did you not get a book in your bounty pack called thriving under five...?cause that has lots of info in it - also your well child book has info re feeding etc.

unfortunately a lot of it is guess work...

We didnt use the newborn insert with Kobe and havent with Addison cos her head keeps popping up and thats more of a worry for me than if she didnt have it so I wouldnt be tooo concerned about that.
With the solids you can always try and if baby spits it out and really has no idea what she is doing then it might be to early, if she is trying to get it in then she is ready, watch what she does with her tongue, its a good indicator.
Kobe was in his cot at 3 months because he was to big for the bassinet, he kept hitting the sides and waking himself up.
With teething she might get a bit of nappy rash, grizzly and a bit hot, also if you feel her gums and she tried to really bite your finger like its releiving some pain then she is probably teething (does that make sense?)

Yeah, it's all hard to figure out! You just get used to one stage and then they are ready to move onto the next! (Even before you are ready sometimes!!!)

And ditto what the others said, but I'll give my own responses too.

1) Like Deb said, from around 4-6 months, but don't be in any hurry as the easy part is when they are just drinking milk. Some other reasons why people start giving their babes solids is when they seem like they are still hungry after feeds or aren't sleeping well at night (because of getting hungry). I started around 17 weeks, but because my Mum advised me to. Wish I'd told her to rack off and done it when I thought Han was ready! (Altho I probably didn't start her consistently on solids until a month later, just started introducing her to food at about 17 weeks.)

2) As long as she is ok at holding her head up, you can try sitting her up in her pram now. I think Han was about that age, and when she fell asleep I just slowly let it back down so that she was lying flat. Can your pram do that??

3) I moved Han out of her bassinet at about 2 months as she was startling and waking herself up when her hands hit the side of the bassinet.

4) Some babies are naturally very dribbly. My friend's baby used to do the same, soak whole bibs, but then she didn't get her first teeth until around 10 months. Keep an eye out for white lumps. Usually bottom front come first.

5) Whenever you are ready.

I'd say don't rush the solids either. We started Maya at 16 weeks as her growth had slowed and the Plunket nurse said it was time, but in hindsight her growth problems had nothing to do with needing to start solids and actually got worse when she did start solids.

Plunket Family Centres run a Starting Solids talk for parents of babies around 4-6 mths telling you what to look out for and how/when to start etc.

With the head support and the sitting up in the pram, as long as she has good head ocntrol she should be fine. And if she is sitting up in the pram and starts to get tired or her head flops a bit then you can always lie her down again. We never had a head snuggler for Maya, but then she had good head control from day one.

teething - i found if Jake was crying and stopped once I rubbed his gums - tooth. with taine, a tooth came through and I though "ahh, thats why he's been grumpy"

solids - if her tongue pushes out the food, too early.

bassinet - never had either child in a bassinet

heating bottles - it's an emergency and you can't heat it, but child takes anyway, from now on - no heating.

burping her - you forget one day and she still goes to sleep - or does it without you tappa-tappa-tapping. taine did at about that age - i think

I heated Kobes bottles the whole time but then if it was a bit cold it didnt really matter. forumla or breast milk must be pretty gross cold, cows milk i didnt mind not heating. Cant remember when I stopped burping Kobe but probably when they starts sitting up and moving around themselves so they can get rid of it if they need to
