Topic: found him across the road!!! Posted: 07 July 2007 at 7:37pm |
Lew's uncle has been re-doing the second bathroom. he's a bit...well, vacant. years of "smoking" have obviously taken their toll kinda thing. anyway, he left the gate open. Lew and I didn't realise as we ALWAYS shut the gate. Lew found taine wandering acorss the road in the ditch! when i think of what could've happned I just feel sick. so now, we are being a lot more vigilant about when people come and visit. i personally would've thought that if you leave and have to open a gate, you shut the bloody thing behind you!!!!
anyway, no use talking to his uncle cause as I said, he's quite "simple" and i don't think it would make any difference - short term memory is crap. am feeling sick though.

I'm so glad he's okay!
I left our gate open once (presuming DP was watching Ella) while I ran down to get something from the car.. came back one second later, asked where she was and DP didn't know! Looked all around, and caught a glimpse of her at the top of the steps next to our house.. so glad she hadn't gone the other way toward the street, we lived on a busy bus route.

that is scary Liz. Glad to hear that he is okay. Does the uncle come over often? Just wondering if its worth investing in a spring on the gate so it will self latch?

How scary for you!!! The shock doesn't ever go away, although it does get a little less raw!
I was about 9 when my 1yr old brother escaped wihtout anyone noticing. Can't remember what Mum was doing, or any of us for that matter (2 sisters and Dad), but there was a knock at the door, with an old man standing there holding my brother. "Does this belong to you?" !!!!!! OMG!!!! He found him in the middle of the road (SH6, BUSY road) and we were the closest house.
I still think about it every now and then... your story reminded me.

Oh crap. Know that feeling well! Luckily Han hasn't ever actually made it onto the road... the footpath was enough to scare the hell out of me

When I was a kid I used to wonder heaps - mum ended up tying me to the clothes line. No kidding. I'd get out of anything!
Must be absolutly terrifying turning around and your child is no longer there and especaially bad if they're found accross a road. Glad everything worked out for you.
