It doesn't say the man is the girl's father anywhere, does it? Just don't want to jump to conclusions about their parents not deserving children!

Mum was telling me about this yesterday. IMO even if he's not the father the family need to think about who they leave their kids with. I'd never leave mine with anyone I even slightly suspected might lose the plot and hurt them.
