What age group do they cater for?

we joined a plunket one and love it. There is such a wide range of toys and most of the when we go we see at least a couple of toys that we haven't seen before. Really good for the big expensive toys, that you don't really want to buy but still use (we have hired a kids rollarcoaster and slides a couple of times).
great value for money!

Ours is a parent centre one and i think it is great - my main reason is that I hate clutter of toys everywhere and it means you don't have to buy some of the big toys and then store them. By getting them out for a few weeks they don't get sick of them and then when they do you just return it for something else. Such a great system.

Oo I'm glad you started this topic, it's something I've been thinking about. Mum suggested my Grandmas get Harry a subscription for Christmas and his birthday, which I think is a great idea.
DH, however, is not convinced. He thinks Harry will get attached to toys and then be sad cos we have to take them back! And he thinks he'll get used to having different fancy toys all the time rather than 'simple' stuff.
I still think it would be good.
What does everyone think?

I think that you and your DH know your son best but you could make it a learning thing were by he'll be learning to take care of his toys so that other kiddies can play with them. He'll learn how a library works.
I don't know I haven't used one but I"ve only heard good things.

I'm signing up to our local one - I figure if JJ gets attached to specific toys later on after the fortnight's borrowing period is up, then we can always borrow it again, or we can go and buy the toy, at least we get the opportunity to see if he likes it first before forking out.

Am not sure how old Harry is but Ollie hasn't got attached to them. He is nearly two and now knows that we get to choose more toys when we get there - which is exciting. Quite often we pack them into the car the night before and just one of us goes in the morning by ourselves and chooses some new toys. He never seems to look for the old toys as he is excited by the new ones.

We have joined our community toy library and it is great, most toys are 50c for 2 weeks! Jack doesn't get attached, I actually find that the novelty wears off after a week.

I recently joined local toy library. I get my son to say good-bye to the toys when it's time to return them. He understands (is nearly 2) and gets excited about the new toys.
It's great to find out what toys he likes best so I don't buy things and then discover he doesn't like them that much.

I've never had an issue with Ella getting upset because a toy is being handed back- luckily at this stage her attention span is still relatively short, so by time we get to the library she is distracted by all the other toys.
Also Ella still plays with simple homemade toys, so all it does is give her a bit of variety.

I belonged to one when Maya was younger, it was great, we hired a slide once, those Crazy Coupe cars, all sorts of cool stuff. Now I have so much crap in my house I could start a toy library of my own
