Bugger! Tip a large glass of water on it to completely saturate it & then pat it up with a towel.

Pour white wine over it. It is meant to work (did for my mums carpet).

No no no!! Put salt all over it. Seriously. leave it there overnight and then vaccum. We did the exact same thing at our place and the mark came out completely!

The salt absorbs the liquid. What did you end up doing?

Probably way too late, but soda water works well too - a 1.5L bottle poured all over it. Hope it came out!

Call the carpet people tomorrow, or any carpet shop, and tell them what happened. They should be able to tell you what to do, if your DH will only dab it with water.
I know how you feel, we just had new carpet down and the flatmate spilt curry on it - damn green mark on my blue carpet! We used friend for carpets after lots of water, and the stain came out, but now that patch is slightly paler than the rest Oh well.
All the best.

Put salt on it anyway. If the carpet is still damp from his 'dabbing', then it will still absorb the liquid.
It totally works, but you have to pour heaps on...like a really thick layer, then vacume it up tomorrow.
Good luck

Yeah, if you put the salt on now, even if it doesn't get it all up, it was worth a try.. and the salt won't do anything else to the carpet.

grind it up and then put it on the stain. You might have to re-wet the carpet first though.

If you can't get it out - Insurance claim. That is what it is there for and you would be surprised at the number of claims for carpet from spills of red wine and ribena
