 Topic: New Plymouth Ladies ...

What is there to do in your lovely town? DH, Alex and I are heading down for the week next week while DH does his Bosiet course for new job and so I am needing ideas on things for Alex and I to do during the day. I won't have a car so no driving for me but am staying at the Devon Hotel which I hear is not to far from town. Thanks for any ideas you may have for mev

Hrmm...I haven't looked too much because the girls aren't old enough, but there is the Aquatic Centre, going for a walk along the foreshore, plenty of beaches to visit...Pukekura Park (which has a massive playground)....ummm....I will see what else I can think of!! Someone else will probably have more ideas too...
If all else fails, maybe the NP mums could even meet you for a lunch/afternoon date one day

DP's family lives down there. We love to walk along the boardwalk. Also you could do the chaddy's charter out to the islands on a tug boat to see the seals!

Another question what the weather like down there? We are in shorts and t's up here but if it's a bit colder than here need to know if I should take warm clothes for Alex. Although if I get caught out at least I will have a reason for shopping

It was about 20 degrees yesterday, but the 3-4 days previous it was COLD lol
Yesterday at about 7pm I was just in 3/4 pants and a singlet, but the days prior I was in a hoody and 3/4 pants...so it's kind of changeable. If there's a southerly wind blowing, it's colder (comes straight off the mountain). I would definitely bring a few jerseys...we put the girls in light cotton cardys at the moment if we take them out (over AIOs and pants), although yesterday they had long sleeve cotton AIOs plus a light summer dress over top.

Hey Heather!
If hte weather is nice it's just lovely but if it's raining - it's not so great!!! We have a lovely little zoo which Lily just loves. It has monkeys and farmyard animals and a neat little playground too.
Go for a walk along the foreshore, there are quite a few playgrounds along the way.
We go swimming every week, the Aquatic Centre is pretty family friendly, although I would recommend going early now as school is starting to finish and it can get a bit manic! (you can get there by walking along the foreshore)
Kindygym is at the YMCA on Monday mornings ($5), you can just turn up.
There are lots of playgroups and music classes (you can just turn up too!) (Parents Centre is about 10 min walk from the Devon)
Puke Ariki, the museum and library and good to visit. The library has a childrens area downstairs.
Pouakai Zoo and Stoney Oaks Farm are good too but you would need a car for that.
You are nice and close to the sea at the Devon. Down the hill a bit (heading away from town) you can get onto the Te Henui walkway (which joins the foreshore at East End). There are lots of ducks to feed and it's a nice spot for a picnic. There is a cafe down there too :)

Yeah I would say bring something a little warmer just in case - you really never know what the weather might do! The museum has some decent stuff on now and then, though I haven't been there recently so I'm not sure what they might have. Pukekura Park is definitely worth visiting though and the other things already mentioned. I am sure there is more, but my brain is totally not working today. Will see what else I can think of!

Thanks for all your suggestions ladies. We had a great time exploring. Didn't quite make it to Pukekura Park (next time) but spent a fair bit of money to boost your economy Next time I come down I shall have to organise a meet up with you all somewhere now that I sort of know your shopping and coffee houses as I was to busy to get on to it before we came down this time. Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas
