I'm interested to know if you room-share your kids, and reasons for/against, and any other general feelings on this topic? Fire away!

No kids yet to share but I was a child that shared. My younger brother and I shared until I was around 10. There's four years difference between us. We got on fine except for the usual sibling spats. I was quite a jumpy child, afraid of the dark, boogie man, monsters under the bed and all that so it was nice for me to have someone else in the room. I had other friends who had to share, for some it worked for some it didn't. Personally I think it comes down to the personalities and age of the children.

I loved sharing with my sister! We shared until I moved up to Auckland at 12 years old.
Occasionally we'd wind up in the same bed (I had chronic nightmares) but I can't remember getting up to much mischief instead of sleeping... except on Christmas eve when we were too excited to sleep!

I shared a room with my sister and it was great for a little while but once I got that little bit older I wasn't in for it (and then got my own room). My friend has her son and daughter sharing (there is only 14 months between them) and is finding it hard with the younger one as he is learning to sleep in a big bed and isn't like it.
I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

We shared on and off as kids, when I was younger it was me and my brother (13 mths younger) then when we got a bit older it was the two girls (my sister is 4 years younger than me) and the two boys (also 4 years apart). Then we had our own rooms. I don't remember any major issues, altho we had our own rooms by the time we were teenagers.
The gremlins share a room, and probably always will, thats their bad luck for being born at the same time, it's not fair to make Maya share with one of them. Because I work from home, I need to have an office, and since even 4 bedroom houses are hard to come by (we're in one now) let alone 5 bedrooms, the gremlins will probably always share.

my 2 big girls share a room and they really love it! it helped my oldest setttle a bit better (she has always been a get up during the night and get into my bed kinda girl!) when we first moved them in together ages ago now we put them to bed at different times (lol oldest first!) as jade would go to bed happily and sleep fast but emma takes a bit longer to wind down. but now they both go to bed at the same time- they have a small chat with each other before going to sleep but they are fantastic. i only feel bad that little kayla is by herself! lol...

The twins share a room and they have done since day 1.  To be honest I would prefer them in their own room, but they are only in their to sleep really.  We are on the move next month to a bigger newer house, and we have decided to keep them in the same room. It is a lot bigger anyway.  Their room at the moment is smaller, but they are in bunks.  I know that Christian quite often says he wants time away from Ethan, but we do have different bed times which we rotate for them.

Aparently in England it is illegal to allow a boy and girl to share a bedroom. I read some article about a couple who couldn't live together cause they only had a 2brm council flat, and a daughter and a son between them.

I think it really depends on the kids themselves. The family set-up. Difference in age as well.

I think that is also one of the reasons why we only want two kiddies. And even then I think they might have to share a bit in the first few years.

I feel however that they all need their own private space specially when they are a teenager. If not a room then it might be a cupboard or a drawer. Something that is just theirs and they dont need to share at all.

I didnt share rooms growing up. (Grew up in a big farm house and then hostell. When my dad bought a house in the city so we can go to school out of home and not a hostell they build on to allow each child to have their own room.)

Hubby had to share a few years with his brother and he said no way is he allowing his kids to share after a certain age. They even went down to draw a line in the room. But there is a 5 year gap between them which I feel has a lot to do with it.

We have a house with four bedrooms but still want our two boys to share a room once Alex is out the cot. Only want to do this for a few years but I think it is important that they learn to share there room and learn about being in the same room and respecting there space etc

We have a 4 bedroom house and before i became preggies with number 3 we used the spare room as the play station room. but with number 3 on the way kalem has been moved into that room i really don't think its fair on him with a 5 year gap. We are thinking when number 3 is older and sleeping well that we might try the girls together so that we can have a play room but we will see

I've been wondering about this lately because I've been wondering if it's fair to room Hannah and Kryssi together. Briona is in her own space, mostly because she gets distracted with another in her room and doesn't go to sleep... or in the case of someone coming in during the night and waking up first in the morning, Briona wakes up really badly (slowly and grizzly) too.

But it means Hannah doesn't have that space to herself. She's not to sing loudly or do much loud stuff when Krystiana is in bed at the same time as her. Is it "ok" to expect that level of responsibility (I guess that's what it is) from a 3 1/2 year old?

I room-shared when I was young too. It was nice to have the company until I was about 12, when I really would have liked my own space. (I just don't remember the preschool years very well )

my girls at present have their own bedrooms and Alize is in my room. The funny thing is my girls sleep together every night. I am now deciding where Im going to room Alize. I was going to put him in with Mercedes but Lesieli wants to share a room with him and since the girls sleep together anyway I was going to put them in together and he can have his own room. Im still unsure how its going to go just yet lol

Goodluck Teresa deciding on  how to room yours!

My brother and I room shared until we were about 10 years old and there is 3 years bewteen us. It wasn't that we didn't have enough bedrooms (we had a 4 bedroom house back then), but I actually preferred it and Mum would come in and read to us for hours on end till we fell asleep and we could both just stay in our beds, she wouldn't have to shift one of us after we fell asleep to our own room. I think I felt safer knowing I was not alone in the bedroom, even though my brother was so much younger and such a little skinny weed of a boy!!

I would have no problem room sharing my children if that is what they wanted!
