Most of these non-voters would probably be very unimpressed if their voting right was withdrawn at the next election

I have a friend that won't vote either but TBH I don't mind, I'd rather she didn't.  She is not at all interested in politics and so has no idea which party suits her ideals and is not interested in becoming educated about the election/parties/politics (I'd rather people like her didn't vote).  Plus she's not the sort of person to complain about the government.

Personally I would think that someone who doesn't have an opinion about who to vote for shouldn't vote rather than doing 'eeny meeny miney mo'
but boo... hiss..... |

I agree! BIL did exactly that with the 2 major parties this year and I thought 'Why bother voting if you don't care which one wins?'

I didn't vote But then I did spend 36 hours in bed with the most vile of tummy bugs. I don't think my fellow voters would have appreciated me sharing what turned out to be some highly contagious germs I am gutted tho, I am a huge believer in the democratic right to vote, and this is the first election I haven't voted in since I've been eligible Plus I keep up with politics even tho it bores me to tears...

I didnt vote either, I have no interest in poilitics, I couldnt give a stuff who wins!
I dont know anything about any of the partys, so there is no point in me voting as my vote wouldnt really count as I would just bevoting "just because".

Maybe next time I'll pay more attention.

Your friend sounds exactly like me in that regard. I didn't vote yesterday, and the one time I did vote in my life, there was no reason behind it as I felt totally indifferent to any party or person. I don't complain about the government because to me I believe the outcome is generally the same regardless of who "wins". Maybe it's the whole MMP thing that makes me this way?
I'm not interested in politics at all and don't see the point in making an uneducated vote just for the sake of saying "I voted"..
