Has anyone else ever had this before? in the shoulder or any other joint.
I have bursitis in my shoulder caused by an injury of some sort that has then been aggrivated by overuse.

I have had physio (2 separate physios) & acupuncture & an ultrasound that confirmed quite severe bursitis. My rotator cuff? is actually coming out of the joint when I move my shoulder rather than moving correctly within the joint. During the day the pain is minimal as I tend to not use my arm in a particular way which is what causes the pain, but at night its so sore that I have trouble sleeping the pain is intense and unbearable, to the point that one night I vomitted from the pain. I am taking brufen and panadine but they don't seem to be helping all that much (this is what my doc prescribed) I have been told not to do any heavy lifting which is kind of impossible when I am the sole parent at the moment and my DD is not mobile.

My main problem is the no sleep caused by the pain, so would really like to know if anyone else had had this and how long it took to heal and what methods were used to fix it.

 TIA

Could you get sleeping pills? And just take one when you need to catch up on some sleep.. can't really help with the pain side of things sorry

Ah you poor thing! My hubby had this... physio (quite a few sessions), excerises to strengthen the shoulder and cortisone injection (guided by ultrasound)... he had a ultrasound and they couldn't find the bursitis but gave him the injection anyway and it did the trick. |

Yep, second the cortisone injection. I have a ganglion in my wrist (not nearly as bad as your bursitis) but it gets really easily flared. I had my L) one cortisoned under ultrasound guidance and it's been wonderful - am seeing the surgeons next week about the R) one. Talk to your GP about a referral to orthopedics - you're probably under NSH and they were really happy to cortisone me - just make sure you talk to the consultant though, not the reg. The regs tend to think "That's what they *used* to do" and the consultants set them straight |

I have heard so many horror stories about the injections making things worse that I am scared to go down that track, but if it comes to that I guess I will have to do it! Thanks

Nah, the injection was fine. Much better than the pain! They giv you a local so that's a bit sore, but hey, you've survived childbirth (and it's nothing like that!)
