    Posted: 07 September 2009 at 9:10pm
well another eventful weekend here
Aidan fell over about 3 more times and ended up with large bumps and bruises on his head :(
today - Monday here I took them to preschool
I get a phone call not even an hour after saying Aidan was just walking and he fell over and smacked his head on the pavement. He is ok though they just wanted to warn me since I was worried about him on Friday (which was his first day back in over a week since him over accidents)
I went and picked the boys up and yes its a nice BIG bump and graze :(
I went to leave and the owner/manager approached me and asked if I was concerned as the fact that Aidan keeps falling over banging his head. I said of course I am!
I mentioned that a few weeks back another staff member was concerned of his eyes - as was I so at his pead appointment mentioned it but he (the stupid attending) said nothing wrong but he would refer us for a follow up - I then received a letter saying he told me to take him to see someone else on my own accord - JERK!
anyway owner lady said her and a couple of other teachers where talking about Aidan today and are really concerned for him
I said Ill take him straight to the doctor
get there and she said there is nothing wrong with him - she just looked at him lol as we were in with the nurse at this point and even though I said he had the big cut on the back of his head she still didn't take any notice till we were walking out and then she said - ohh how did he do that-
we get moved to the doctors room where the doctor looks in his ears
there is fluid/wax and blood in his left ear
but there is nothing wrong with him and nothing we can do WTF!
she said I could send him for a scan of his head but 'I know' it will come back nothing and the radiation will be more harmful for him then anything else

at this point Im in tears and said said 'what did you want me to say there is something wrong' I was like no I just expected you to take a better look and be a tad more concerned as to the fact he has had two large knocks requiring medical treatment plus numerous over knocks all within 1 week of each other!

on my way out I asked if she had any pamphlets or information on Strep B and she said no
I said what about Bacterial Vaginisos and she said 'who is treating you for those? they can cause pre term labor or complication if left untreated'

I just left

so I just hope my prescription arrives from the midwife tomorrow and then I have to wait till the 21st to see the OB

what should I do? Preschool, Hubby, my mum and I are all worried for him

Poor you and poor wee guy. Can you take him to another doctor, plunket nurse. Can the preschool refer you to someone or write a letter you can take along to a medical professional? Is your mum able to go along with you as support - sometimes us mum's can be so emotionally involved which makes it hard to get our point across.

It's sooooo frustrating when you're trying to do the best for your kids and no-one seems to take you seriously. I hope you get some answers soon.

I'd trust your gut and get a second opinion personally. You aren't the only one concerned about it and it sounds like she pretty much just palmed you off.

With regards to the BV - yes it can cause preterm labour but a course of antibiotics will often clear that up pretty quickly.

you've had such a rough time lately.

Oh no hun [:([

Don't take no for an answer. And find a better GP IMO - this one sounds like she has no idea what is going on, especially if she doesn't even know your history with infection/preterm labour.

Can you call the hospital and see if you can arrange another paed appt? He shouldn't need a referral if he's already seen them in the past. Has he had a recent eye test? It could be as simple as him not seeing so well.

The fluid and blood in the ear are concerning too, and another potential cause for the clumsiness as middle ear infections/fluid can affect balance.

thanks everyone
I'm thinking of emailing his pead and seeing if she could see him and/or refer us to someone who will look 'into it' for us
this doctor is 'fillin' since my original doctor left about a month ago

she looked in his right ear and said gromments looking good
then when she looked in his left she had to ask how long he has had the grommets and if he has had a cold in the last week
I said no about 3-4 weeks ago and he was given antibots for a ear infection then
she just went ohh really

I'm of the opinion that most doctors don't know anything about ears - I have a brilliant GP and I don't even trust her when it comes to the girls ears, it's just soooo hard to see in small ears so i leave it up to the ENT experts who do it for a living.

Oh dear, I would be going for a second opinion. If you want to get his eyes checked out then I take Spencer to an awesome eye doc (privately but not that expensive), he might be a bit too qualified for a general eye exam though (Spencer was born with an eye condition) however nzpiper could recommend a good optician as she recommended our guy, I think she is an optician or at least use to work in that area.

Hi, I'd prob recommend a specialist look at his eyes too. He was a prem so that can come with eye prbs,,,I'm syre you know.

wrt the cost...if you have community services card you might get it subsidised. EnableNZ has a spectacle subsidy for kids and you are entitled to a certain amount each year (although they are unindated with claims and are taking so long to process that some places are not offering it now as the practice gets left seriously out of pocket)

I cant remember who Spencer sees. but PM me if you need advice

He sees Mark Elder. So far we have been charged $100 for the first app which was the longest appointment and involved him putting a solution in his eyes to open the pupil up so that he could have a good look inside and then each app since has been $60 but he hasn't needed to do the solution thing again.

Yep, he was the one specialising in paedatric ophthalmology when I was in chch. I think there was a new one tooo call Anthony Bedgood...might work out of Southern Eye Specialists. Personally I think both lack personality....but most do. They know there stuff though

Oh I so totally agree with that.

Hopefully you can get him into a nice kind paed soon.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

Well I never heard back from his pead :( I can only assume that she has referred him to the ent and eye specialist

however a couple of days ago I had to take Bailey to the doctor for his ears. anyway this time we seen a different doctor so I quickly asked him if he could recheck Aidans ears as the last doctor said there was fluid and blood in his left ear but she did nothing!
well he was not happy!!! his left ear still has fluid and blood but his grommet has practially fallen out and is only being held in there by the blood thats drying up
and he believe that is whats causing him to become off balance!
so antibiotics - a stronger one then the other doctor normally gives. For both the boys
and on my way out he told me to take Aidan with me to Baileys pre-op appointment today and get them to check his ears again there!
so fingers crossed he will check them with no arguing!
