I want to colour my hair for my sister's wedding in 3 weeks time. Does anyone know if this is safe to do while pregnant? Thanks.

well in the what to expect while your expecting book it says that its unknown what hair dye does and to avoid it. So I didnt colour my hair at all with my first preganancy. During my second pregnancy i was a little more relaxed and when i was out of the first trimester is put foils in. My reasoning was that it didnt actually touch my scalp therefore would not get into my system.
But when you think of all the toxins that you cant avoid every day im sure a little hair dye wouldnt hurt too much.

yeah i mean look at all the stuff we put on our faces bodies and even shampoos etc! and that's EVERY DAY! I died my hair both times i was preg and just made sure that it was in a very well ventilated room because the fumes would probably cause more damage than the small amount absorbed into your skin. I spose it also depends on what type of dye you are planning to use.. i mean is it a natural one.. or peroxide?? lol.

I dyed my hair during my first pregnancy and then found out during my second that chemicals from hair dye can be found in the urine. So I opted not to dye my hair for my other two pregnancys just in case. Like janine said it probably depends on what kind of dye you are using.

I had mine done with a semi-permanent so it basically just washes out after a while, and with a few highlights thrown in for variety. Not terribly worried about it, my midwife said as long as I was out of the 1st trimester (which I was), I was more than likely OK. Oh, and had it done at a salon rather than at home !

I am planning to have it done at a salon (just foil highlights) however I will be in my first trimester. I am thinking it might be best to avoid it all together just to be on the safe side. Thanks for your replies.

I had thought that the dye may turn out different from what you intend. With a lot of people, their hair seems to change. Mine got a lot thicker, so if I had dyed it, the resultss may have been weird. I'm not sure.

I wondered the same thing when i was pregnant and i got told by my hair-dresser that foils are ok as they are not from the roots un-like when you dye it sits on your scalp and your body absorbes it not how much but better to be safe then sorry i say.
