Topic: Rant!!! Posted: 10 July 2006 at 9:19am |
Right now I’m getting really grumpy….we have 2 more in the office down with bugs only at least one looks like she is coming down with tummy bug going around….and she refuses to go home…even my boss is getting annoyed…the other girl thankfully is headed home now.
Am I totally unreasonable? I just really hate it when people come into work this sick!! I’ve managed to shake my one in record timing and the last thing I want is any other sodding bug! And I’m sure our walk in customers don’t want them either!!!

Lay the pregnant hormonal women smack down on them lol i would, i used to get mad when people would stay at work sick coz the bugs travel through the air con and it infects more people.

people often think they are being "brave" when they come into work sick. They don't realise that they are really "contagious". Japan was soooooo bad for it. Students coming in saying what good students they were for coming to school even though they virtually had the plague "cough splutter cough" all over the desk. lovely!

I have the opposite problem. I'm feeling like total sh*t, I have a doctors appointment at 12:30pm and I'm coughing and sneezing yet my boss won't let me go home to rest!! I'm thinking after the doctors I'll just go home and call in and say I'm not coming back for the rest of the day

Ooh this is one of my pet peeves!
Its not like I'm afraid of germs but I would really prefer to avoid bugs if I can. It is just so much harder to deal with them while I'm pregnant.

I don't think any of you are being unreasonable. I hate it when people turn up at work sick and infecting everyone, let alone anyone who is pregnant.
I've got a friend who has two small children (6m & 2yr), she had a visitor a couple of weeks back who had a sinus infection, wouldn't you know it within the week her and the two girls were crook as....do people just not realise how easy it is to infect people...!!!

The other girl hasn't gone home yet dispite us offering to cover all her work, and now she's on the phone with personal calls!...every time that hacking cough starts up I'm cringing....I consider myself so lucky that I shook mine as quick as I did and honestly if I get sick again with only 1.5 days sick leave left I'll be really upset!
And no I don't think others do stop to think how easily they can infect others. The really funny thing is that this girl is the flamming Health and Saftey officer!

I think you should have a word to your sick friend? Has anyone actually mentioned to her that you aren't so concerned about her health, but everyone elses???

oops.. by friend I meant co-worker hehe
People without kids or being pregnant seem to have no notion of how important being healthy is!!! I mean, think of the hangovers they inflict upon themselves! The idiocy!

Well the funny thing is that 3 of us did mention to her that we would also like to stay healthy....she was more concerned with getting her work done which while very noble I'm sure, really didn't worry us and really has no meaning when we then can't do our work due to illness. We did tell her that we would sort it all out for her.
Now she's going on a Health & Safety course for the next few days sounding like death (and yes we did also mention that she might want to cancel that as we're sure no one would want to get sick from her).
At least we fianlly got her home...I suppose that was something.

Thank goodness she finally went!! It's rude, sharing your germs. I hate it when people are bored of being at home when they're sick so figure they'll pay me a visit... NO CONSIDERATION!! Had one friend who did it every time she was ill, when I had a condition that had left me with a shoddy immune system and unlikely to recover from bugs without the help of drugs! I eventually had to put the hard word on about why I don't visit sick people anymore, and after about 8 "no, we can't do that today"'s, she got the idea. I've noticed how many people working in the supermarket checkouts seem to have chesty coughs this winter, and they cough and hack away while handling all of my groceries, then my efty card... so not cool!

Yuck!!! MY PET PEEVE. A LADY FROM MY WORK HAS BEEN SICK FOR 7 FRICKEN WEEKS. Yes, 7 weeks, hacking, coughing, passing it around (Jacob and I have had it twice in 2 flipping weeks)MOANING and making everyone else sick and miserable and sick of her. I lost the plot and yelled at her today, I said I can't beleive you haven't been to the Dr, if it was "just a cold" it wouldn't still be hanging round 7 weeks later. I even offered to pay for her to go. She REFUSES to even take panadol, instead prefering to whinge, moan etc. Today, she obviously got the picture and went home at 9.15, and rang to say she was going to the Dr. Talk about selfish, and making me SO MAD. GGGRRRRRRR

argh i know i hate it when people are like that too.
Prob with me at the mo is - I can't escape it, IT IS PART OF MY JOB. yes we see the odd fracture and the odd laceration and stitching and putting on plaster casts (which might i add - very exciting lol seriously fun) but other than that, it's this icky sickness bug that's going round, pretty much every one i see each day (about 1 person every 15 mins for 8 and a half hours, for the last 8 weeks, you do the maths) has one of two things - there seem to be two nasty bugs going round
One is the sicky chucky bug. comes on suddenly, high fevers, shivering, feel like you are going to die, with body aches, skyrocketing temps and feeling really nauseated(if you are lucky), and vomitting and diarrhoea (if you are really UN-lucky) will usually go away if you are reall yunhealthy like i did when i got it in the first week of placement, and just stayed home 1 day, didn't eat, just sipped on the green mango flavoured E2 and had little bites of dairy milk choccy bars, then soup for dinner with a bread and by next day was all good.
The other is the flu, which is sooo nasty this year, hanging on for weeks and usually ending up down in the chest which for a fair amount of people - it JUST WON'T GO AWAY without medical intervention that is. It is not uncommon this winter to be sick for at least the better part of a month with one aspect of it or the other.
So really, to cut a long story short (after i have already shared the long story, lol) i knew that for it was inevitable that i'd get it, once the kids got sick i knew that being around sick people AT HOME as well as AT WORK, that i would get it.
argh, stupid winter... roll on summer so i can complain about the migraines and hayfever.
I'm not a whinger, really i'm not

oh I have had the sicky chucky bug, and the worst part of it
It never occured to me to seek medical help, when it hit I curled up in bed with some lemonade and 2 days later felt fine.

mm most people we see are the ones with the flu - that's the one that's been hanging on - some schools and daycares have been hit really bad. most kids still have coughs... we took Paris to docs and she got antibiotics cos hers turned into bronchitis.
