Topic: bed time Posted: 10 July 2006 at 1:27pm |
Tried Jake in his big boy bed for naptime today. Did the usual naptime routine. Got his blanket and a few books and put hiom in. Explained that now he'd have his naps in this bed and how exciting it was. He lay down. "I'm such a super-mum", I'm thinlking smugly as I close the door. two minutes later, Jake is up knocking at the door with his book and blanket. I open it, and he runs into the lounge. Says "bye bye" amd runs into the other room where his cot is, and climbs in. lays down and is asleep now. I shall try again tomorow. Any suggestions? He has a neat duvet that he chose. he has his Lion which was with him. Same routine as I said. I don't want to get into the habit of lying down with him if possible. He tends to chat and if you ignore him, he hits you to "wake you up"

Take his cot down if possible so he doesnt have a choice. And just keep taking him back and putting him in his new bed. He will soon get the picture. Na i wouldnt get into the habit of laying down with him either.

For some reason Hannah didn't give a crap about leaving her cot. But as you well know, was obviously stoked with the newfound ability to escape from her bed.
But yeah, take down the cot if you have to. Or just keep taking him back to bed and just hope that it doesn't make it a place where he doesn't want to be.
3 days to change remember. (Just had to re-do the 3 day mission after coming home from holiday, but it worked again!!! Except for the middle of the night visits )

We've recently done the cot-to-bed thing with Ella.
I took the cot down straight away on the advice of my Mum.
The first night was dreadful and she was all over the place, I thought we were in for a very long transition period.
The next day we dug out the old safe-t-sleep and put that on the bed and we haven't looked back!

Yeah, I can't put him in there at night at the moment as he has no curtains!! I've looked everywhere for them, but they are officailly gone. So have to save up to get some material to make them. He has two HUGE windows so they end up around $80 each. anyway, will persevere. Problem with taking the cot down, have to put it back up again for Taine!

i used to lay down with gabriel for day sleeps and it never presented a problem. i think making sure he was very tired at the beginning helped too.

we are hoping to get jack into his new room before his birthday, and that will mean a big boy bed too.
my midwife suggested putting the cot in there to start with so he gets used to the room, and then put him in the big bed.....what do you all think? or should he just go straight into the big bed?

no problem. Put Jake into the big bed today, and after singing, banging on the window, and "reading", he is asleep! woohoo. No knocking on the door today. I ended up lying in bed with him, and we read some stories, then kiss from mum and dad, and clsoe the door.
and Nikki, blankets over the windows????? classy! (we had a sheet over the ranchslider for about a month...ick ick ick.) so in other words...maybe.

haha thread-"Jack". Geepers I'm hilarious today.
Do whatever you feel comfortable with Vanessa. Like I said before, Hannah wasn't in the least concerned with losing her cot, but a lot of other kids aren't too impressed at being shoved outta their safe zone. I left the cot up in the room when I first put her in the bed, but took it down after about a week as she didn't pay any attention to it.

You just take them down when anyone comes over and no one will know the difference!

I gotta admit I did laugh as well, but you can laugh at me in a years time or so when I have the same problem!!
And we had sheets up in Hannahs room behind her thin curtains to actually make the room dark, and I still have a blanket up on a really timy window cos I cant find one that fits!
