We are having a Naming Day 'party' for Soph and just wondered if anyone had been to one of these as its our first....

What did people get up to, did they do anything special?

I was thinking 3-6pm drink and nibbles but wanted to do something to mark it as her special day and need ideas, my mind is dead from having 2 minutes sleep a night...!!

Thanks ladies

Will you be having an MC that can run a short ceremony as part of the party? If yes you could include a couple of things.

- have someone read a poem or verse which is appropriate

- ask a friend to sing at the ceremony

- have a candle for you, one for your DH and one for Sophia. When the ceremony starts your candle and dh's one are already lit and during the ceremony you and dh use your candles to light Sophia's symbolising that in coming together you gave Sophia life.

- have something prepared for the guest to repeat in unison "We all agree to call you Sophia Elizabeth We wish you long life and happiness In a loving and peaceful world. May you bring joy to your parents, your godparents, your grandparents To each of us, your family and friends. And may we bring joy to you."

- If Sophia has godparents/mentors they could say something like Sophia Elizabeth we solemnly swear
to take a special and lifelong interest in your welfare and to offer you friendship, counsel, and support.

When is the naming day? Hope it all goes well.

One of our friends had this for their daughter. Like MrsMojo said..they had a poem read out as well as a small prayer.

What they did (I thought was great). They had a small tree and some butterfly card cut out that people could write messages for the bub and then hung them on the tree.

And they had the the usual, and amazing cake, nibbles, drinks etc.

We were going to have one for Jack but decided not to in the end - still a little disappointed we didn't. I just googled naming ceremony and heaps of stuff came up, some of which included what MrsMojo suggested.
I hope you have a wonderful day!

A friend of ours did a cool thing. They used the candle from their wedding to light a candle for their DS.
