Topic: my baby grunts/growls/pushes in her sleep Posted: 13 October 2009 at 8:30am |

this started when she first had constipation (shes 5 weeks old) but when that went away the noises stayed. you can hear her in other parts of the flat, i cant sleep much at night cos SHE is so loud and all i hear is grunting ALL night. midwife, plunket and dr all recon this is normal as some babies are just noisy...i dont think so!! no one seems to take us seriously when we bring this up, visitors are horrified that we put up with this day in and day out, THEY dont think its normal, and these are people who have kids. i dont know where to go from here....sometimes the grunting and pushing wakes her up and sometimes she sleeps right through it....

Some babies are noisy sleeper but maybe mw, plunket and GP don't realise how noisy. Maybe you could take her to see someone like a homeopath or an osteo for cranial work. Maybe she put something out when she had the constipation. If you are in West Auckland there is a homeopath that works out of Green Bay Pharmacy and Lincoln Nth Mall Pharmacy. I have seen her about Ben and she has been very helpful.
Good luck.

thanks, yeah i was wondering about that, the fact that they dont realise how bad it is, i just wish they would listen to you when you explain HOW bad it is, im not some frantic mother who complains abiout every little thing. i wish someone would LISTEN to us and take us seriously. its not the waking up to feed her thats getting me tired its the laying awake listening to her grunts thats doing it

Have you got a video camera? You could record her so they would know exactly how noisy she is?

Can you play music, either the radio or a baby sleep CD etc on low volume to help drown out the grunting? It is hard sometime to get 'them' to listen. If you think there is a problem then I would suggest you pursue it, definately try and osteo, homeopathy etc. If you need I can suggest a great osteo in Henderson

Book in a half day at the Family Centre on Lincoln Road... that way the plunket nurses will actually see how bad she is and then they may take you seriously and be able to help?
