   Hi there,
I missed my last period (due 13th Aug)   Did a HPT on the 16th which showed positive. Just wanting to know, do I need to go to a doctor to have pregnancy confirmed or can I wait out 12 weeks and find a midwife???

 Cheers
 :)

i think getting it confirmed is up to you. It does help make it more official etc, but I never raced to the doc and wasnt in a rush to get a midwife either.
 BTW congratulations!!!!

Thanks for that! I'm in no hurry to go to the dr either, was hoping I could just go straight to midwife. Will wait it out a bit, then try and find someone. Thanks for the reply :)

Midwives book up really quickly, I'd get on to that sooner rather then later.
 Congrats and good luck

I was also going to say start calling midwifes asap, so you can get in with one you like. Congrats! |

You don't have to go to a doctor at all, but definately get a MW organised ASAP as the good ones go pretty darn quickly ad you'll be needing antinatel blood work done and a script for iodine and colic acid if you aren't already on them.
Congratulations an enjoy this very exciting time

Congrats! Ditto on the midwife - they can also do a test to confirm for you if you want.

I was over 6weeks with my first before going to the Dr & confirming it...& then got a m/w & ended up not liking the m/w so changed to a hosp m/w where I worked.
I never had any probs getting m/w's even for my Dec baby.
Congrats & all the best |

I called a MW at 4w+2d this time (which is when i found out) because I wanted a specific one. I'm due at the beginning of the month, but she was booked out a week after I called.
I agree don't bother with a doctor, but a good midwife makes a world of difference so get in early while you have more choice |

Hey thanks for the later replies. I started taking Folic a couple of months back (when I started ttc) and have read recently about the iodine thing. Thanks for the advice on the MW, guess I better get the phone book out, Im only 5 weeks (today) going by my last period so was going to do the 12 week wait.   This is my second pregnancy (with a five year gap) so its almost like starting over.
 Cheers again

Ohh 5 year gaps Love it, surprisingly it all comes flooding back.
I didn't bother with the doctor this time around, just rang a mw. Mw's are capable of doing everything a dr does when reporting a pregnancy.
