Topic: What pressie to take....     Posted: 09 October 2007 at 12:08pm |

I was reading in Up The Duff, that if this is your 2nd baby, that you should take a pressie for your child, to make them feel special... So what pressie do I take to hospital to give to lucy from the baby?? I can't get her a baby doll as I don't know what the sex is going to be? Any suggestions?

We gave this a bit of thought already and was ooming and aahing about getting her a doll. Or a special t-shirt that say she is a big sister.

Other thing is as well is get Dad to take her out and chose a present for the baby as well. Will make her feel super
special that she chose a present for her new sibling.

Or what about a book about being a big sister ect?

We steered away from getting kobe anything to do with being a big brother and got him a present from baby which i think from memory was a car he wanted and we also went shopping with him to choose a present to give to the baby (a teddy)
Another thing I was told which helps is if you let the other child help open any presents give to the baby so they dont feel left out, even though its not for them they still get to be involved. Kobe was official present opener for ages! And lots of people brought him something little too which was nice

When I looked after Bailey while Amber(BaileyandAstin)was in hospital having Astin, we made and iced cupcakes for her and Bailey made cards for Mummy and Astin with lots of stickers on!
He had fun (and so did I!), and it seemed to help make him feel part of it all!

Maya got twin dolls from the gremlins, but she wasn't all that fussed with them, she was more impressed with the REAL twins! I did take her shopping to pick something for each of them tho and she picked a small Care Bear each which they still have in their cots, and she often mentions to people that she bought them their care bears.

When my sister was born (I was 2) I got given a doll which my mum had made. She was almost as big as I was! She was made out of stocking type material, and turned into my FAVOURITE toy of all time, and even now (although her hair has fallen out, her stuffing is coming out from behind one eye, and a baby skivvy is holding her head on) she is still very precious and lives on our spare bed. I like the idea of a doll for the big sister for that reason I guess - cos mine was so special.

there is 18 mths between my kids and we did nothing, not even really announce we were having a baby to the older one. he coped well. i think the pressie idea is to make the parents feel better.

i think in the long run it is more important to make them feel like they are still part of the family and the new baby isnt taking their place ... no mean feat in itself that one!
