So Taine has officially been diagnosed with low iron levels. he'll be re-tested in two months so we have until then to try and get his levels at a normal rate.
Basically, I've googled iron deficiency so I know all the advice - supplements, blah blah, no milk during dinner - juice instead (flying in the face of what the dentist told us - oh well), iron rich foods, etc.

What I'd like to know from some of you, what advice were you given about raising iron levels that isn't the norm? As I said, I can google heaps but am looking for some other advice really. (to be honest, am probably looking for some magic quick fix idea for my kid, but just worded it in a more believable way)

I have very high Iron levels and always have. My doc thinks that my high levels of Vit C (as I virutally live on fruit) supports my iron levels. Not sure if that's correct but you couldn't do any wrong by increasing the red and orange foods in his diet.
My Iron levels also went through the roof when I was a kid and I would up in hospital several times as my bowels pretty much shut down. Just be aware of constipation as it can get so nasty so quickly in little ones. I was in hospital for over a week the first time. I have horrible memories of nurses with long tubes and lots of pain.

I'm glad you have a reason behind his lethargy now.
I know I feel like that when I'm lacking in iron!
I can't offer any solutions, other than the normal things.
But I know after just a few days on my iron tablets I can feel a real difference.
I hope he perks up soon |

Friut does help, also no white meat for a while only red meat will help. Has he been given iron tablets?? If not you could get some over the counter and crush them (so long as you get ones that can be crushed), and mix them in a juice. |

I went to Hardy's and got some "iron water" - supposedly able to be absorbed better. Advertised on the box "You can really taste the iron!" mmm - sounds great!
however, mixed with juice, you can't taste it so much, although does have a metallic tang.

am thinking of giving Jake some too - afterall, they eat more or less the same thing
