My 5 month old is obsessed with his cot mobile.
When I put him down to sleep he'll get all excited and kick, squeal and smile at it for quite a while before going to sleep. I don't even turn it on!

 Should I remove it?

The thing is he eventually does drop off to sleep so would I be mean to remove it if he genuinely enjoys it? Its just a basic mobile with some soft toy bugs hanging off it. No lights or projections or anything flash like that.

Is it true that as soon as baby can sit up you have to remove cot mobiles anyway?

What are your opinions about cot mobiles?

If he is falling asleep I dont really see a problem.
The one we had, swung out of the way, so we didnt remove at all well until she drove us barmy turning the music on all night. |

We removed our at 5months as Sirius was pulling himself up and trying to grab at the mobile.
He actually broke the arm of it, so he only has a starlight dreamshow now.

Cooper loves staring at his. I've moved it to the foot of his cot so he can see it but not pull on it. He looks at it for reasurance.
When away we only have the music part so I suppose I could pack up the rest of it

When it comes to sleeping- Mobiles are useless in my opinion. There is no way in hell DD would ever go to sleep with it on. She swings her arms and legs as if she was dancing to it (it moves and plays music). I do use it as a toy though, I put it above her cot when I want soem time where I dont have to worry about her (she is useless at day sleeping, so it is nice to put her down for a bit and not have to entertain or hold her). She would happily dance to it for 60- 90 minues!!! |

It SAYS you should remove them when baby can sit up/pull up, but I'd just leave it until they're actually trying to pull on it. Jack had his still attached for ages, then I just removed the moblie part and left the music box.

Campbell did the same thing - his mobile was at the head of the cot, but he'd tilt his head back to see it! He started trying to grab at the toys about a month ago, and he wasn't far off from being able to reach them, so decided to move the mobile. And now he doesn't miss it being there at all! I've put it on the side of his playpen, so he can still see it when he's up and awake - he can't reach it there.

the twins managed to snap their one early on, so now we have it hanging in the centre of their room. They love the bright colours, and they each have a musical toy in their cot, we found they fell asleep with the music easily.
