One of our customer just brought in a whole pile of cream donuts for our afternoon tea. I really really want one but I think I remember reading somewhere that cream is bad if it's been sitting around in a bakery display cabinet?
Should I avoid eating one, or is that going overboard in terms of food safety? I want to be careful but I also don't want to be too picky. Arrrgh, decisions decisions.... !

TBH I'd be safe rather than sorry.  It's best to avoid any dairy products that have been sitting around at room temp.   How about stopping at metro (or a supermarket near home) on the way home and buying a donut and some fresh cream so you don't miss out. |

Best to avoid I'm afraid. I not OTT with avoiding etc but I don't think cream from an unknown source is a wise idea. |

Thanks for your thoughts, I was good and just had my apple while everyone else ate the yummy donuts *sob*. Oh well it's only for another six months, not very long in the grand scheme of things!

mmm cream donuts are my favourite!!! I would get some plain donuts from the supermarket and whip up some cream, or even better go to a fish and chip shop who makes fresh hot donuts then put your cream in yummmmmm

i was naughty the other week and had a cream donut. But the bakery I went to is always sold out by the end of the day so I knew that they would be freash and I went in the morning so they hadn't been there for very long. And I must say it was so good and tasted very fresh.
But if I hadn't known the bakery I wouldn't have gone in.

I gotta say I so agree Sheza. I eat what my body tells me to eat, and that includes a ham sammy if I feel like it. Just read this article in Pregnancy that Jessica Alba ate a ham sandwich every day of her pregnancy..
I won't eat sushi, but I think the thought of eating raw fish has been scaring me more than bacteria.

I think I'd eat it too, I've had sponge cake from the bakery with cream in it many times while I've been pregnant! It actually never crossed my mind that I shouldn't to be honest! Wouldn't they keep things with cream in a refrigerated cabinet anyway?
