 Topic: Those with RH negative blood type

Hi
I'm RH negative and my DH is RH positive. During my pregnancy I became sensitized, which lead to me producing antibodies.
For those of you who have RH negative blood type and your DP/DH is positive, I'm wondering what percentage of babies are born RH positive or RH negative.
I know that roughly 15% of the population is RH negative, but I'm hoping the odds of having a negative baby is higher than that.

Hi NikkiB,
I am also RH - and DH is RH+....both of my girls are the same as their dad and are RH+
15% sounds about right from what I am told.

im o- and all four of my kids are 0+ i had to get the jab after them all  was hoping one would be a negative like me! lol. my mum is 0- and out of her 2 kids im the only - my big sis is a +

I'm A- and so is my husband so our girl is either A- or O- we did try to get her blood tested but midwife couldnt get any blood out of the cord..not that it mattered we just wanted to know cause of curiosity.

Rh positive can be caused in 2 ways. The first is if the person has the genes "DD". The second is if the person has the genes "Dd". This is because the D gene is what is called dominant, and so 1 copy is enough to create a positive blood type.
The alternative option for genes is "dd" which is what people with negative blood type have.
A baby inherits 1 gene from each parent, so the likelihood of a postive baby from from a negative and a positive parent depends on the genes that the positive parent has.
The negative parent can only pass on a 'd' gene. If the positive parent is DD, they can only pass on a D gene, and all the babies will have Dd, and be positive.
If the positive parent is Dd, then he/she has a 50% change of passing on a D gene, to get a Dd positive baby, and 50% chance of passing on a d gene, to get a dd negative baby.
So Nikki, depending on whether your husband is DD or Dd, you either have a 0% (sorry!) or 50% chance of having an Rh negative baby.

Dh = O pos (and only know that cause Rhyley is the same)
so 2xneg and 1xpos baby for me

I am not sure if they are able to tell very easily frrom a simple blood test whether you are carring the recessive gene (ie. Dd)
Our sons blood test clotted so we are not sure what blood type his as they weren't able to test it.
I have the weird situation where both my parents were carriers and at least 2 of my grandparents of the Rh negative gene as all my granparents and both my parents have Rh positive blood.

Nikki I think in your circumstance (already sensitised) it would be useful to talk to a consultant immunologist / geneticist or obst before ttc #2.
It is also significant which ABO group your DH is - if he is a different ABO group to you that is a good thing because it gives you some protection against the Rh incompatibility. I can explain better if you like....

My midwife from last time is brillant, I'm to call her when we TTC #2, as she will put me onto a OB and also a few ladies who have already gone through what we are facing.
