Is any one out there waiting to get on the wating list for ivf?
We have been waiting to get on the list for a year now and stil haven't got enough points for the list. I rang them yesterday and ask them where we are at and she said maybe 2-3 more years.

That seems odd. Who have you been dealing with (eg. Fertility Plus, Fertility Associates?) - in my understanding, either you qualify or you don't, or you're told what goals you need to reach.
Do you know what your fertility issue is? Are you needing to lose weight? How long have you been trying to conceive unsuccessfully?
Basically, what are your circumstances? I haven't come across anyone who has had to wait to accumulate points to get on the waiting list - we've all just gone on. Perhaps you've been given dodgy advice or been fobbed off?

I've heard of someone in Wellington who got points to qualify after self-funding four unsuccessful IUIs and is now on the waiting list. Because they had unexplained unfertility they would have had to try for five years unsuccessfully to qualify otherwise.

I think this is the criteria list link. Here It's not as simple as you either qualify or you don't. We will qualify, but not for three years from the date of first seeing the specialist.

hi, we saw the specialest in chch and he told us that there would be no problem as far as the conception side of things. It's just the points system that we are on that is the issue at this time.
The fertility centre has a points system and they gave us 45 points at the first visit. we are now at 48points.Now after 11months we are still at 48 points and require 65points or higher to reach the threshold for eligibility for treatment. we have been told that the points will continue to be recalculated monthly until the threshold is met. then our names will be added to the to the waiting list. Has anyone been through this procedure?

I may just be naive - but has he had or can he have a Vasectomy Reversal? I have heard of other people getting pg naturally after a VR.
Also, looking at the eligibility criteria if the vasectomy is your only problem are they sure you will actually reach the 65 points?

Sometimes what happens Emily is that when it is reversed, the man's body effectively rejects the sperm and creates antibodies to it. Lulu and her husband had this problem.

We have our first appointment with FA in Welly in August to discuss IVF. When we saw the specialist at the hospital in May he said the waiting list is about 6mths.We are not 100% sure that we will be eligible for funding. I am hopeful that we will have enough points. We loose points because we have a nearly 5 year old but gain points because I have lost both my fallopian tubes to ectopic pregnancies (classed as severe infertility, as in we can try till the cows come home nothing is ever going to happen). As far as we know neither my partner nor I has any other issues.

That's probably issues enough avkiwi3! I am so sorry you have been through that!! They list the criteria on the FA website and I think if your child is over 3 it increases your points? I could be remembering that very, very wrong though I realyl do hope you get on the list!!

Thanks Ginger, I have had a look at the info of how the points are worked out and it is looking good, the only think I can't work out/don't know is what my Basal FSH is which i think is what they measure when you have to do a CD2 BT which I have had done but I don't know the results.
Andrew Murray did say that if we aren't elegable now we most likely will be when Amelia turns 5.

You're with the same specialist as me Avkiwi3, he'll be doing my lap and overseeing my IVF if it comes to that - an old work colleague had AM for her IVF cycle as did two of her neighbours and they all had wee bubbas so he knows what he's doing! |
