   Apart from giving birth lol
I went for my scan at 19w and they guy said 80% girl....then went back and said 80% boy.....then changed his mind and said he didn't know....arrrrgghhh

I'm sure I didn't see girl bits, but saw boy bits! Anyhoo.....

I have been booked back in for another scan by the manager of the place because there were other issues with the scan......or rather the sonographer doing the scan.......sooo, have been booked in for 23 weeks which is another 3 weeks away. The manager wanted me to wait til 23-24 weeks! But the lady booking me said 23 would be ok, plus its close to xmas.
I wanted to get it done earlier and was wondering if 21 would be ok? I thought it may have been because I am a bigger mummy, but the scan was clear enough for everything else.

So am I being to impatient lol

Nefertiti, I would be guttered if the sonographer told me girl and then boy in the same scan. Terrible!
Surely you would be fine to go back at 21 weeks with a better sonographer. If everyone else can find out at 18-20 weeks I don't see why you should have to wait til 23 weeks! Ridiculous!
Try to have a tea or coffee before the scan to make sure baby is awake and moving.
 Good luck |

I think I'll try the drink - I have been reading other posts it can make baby a little more active!
My regular sonographer was away as his wife had gone into premature labour so I had someone else....they did call, and I thought it was with a lady but this guy did it instead.

Here is a copy of my post from april 09:

Well I went for my scan - and absolutely hated the guy doing it! I would ask questions and his responses were vaugue and 'we're not there yet'! He couldn't tell me the size of the baby, yet said I am 20w1d not 19w. He couldn't even tell me what the average size of a baby this age its!
When I asked the sex, he said 80% girl. I asked him to check again to be told 80% boy!
When I got home I phoned the manager and complained! He has booked me back in in 4 weeks with my original awesome sonographer at no charge!! So thats good, but now I have to wait 4 weeks more to find out if its a boy or girl! At least I get the disc from today for free. There are some cool pics on there.

I'd forgot to add that when he was going the scan, the gel stuff dried and it was pulling my skin; I told him and he ignored me. He also at the start asked me to pull my pants down further! My pubic hair was showing....I've never had to pull them down that far.
When I asked if babies are usually down that low at 19 weeks he said 'oh they can be anywhere'.
 I hated the guy.
I told the manager its a good think I don't know his name or I would be telling it to everyone! The manger (who is also a doctor and sonographer) said that the measurement to get the age at this stage is done by measuring the head, stomach, arms and legs......this guy had only done the head!

Anyway.....I made my complaint and all sorted. I just want to get back to my regular guy and get a decent scan lol

A very simmilar thing happened to my sil who is due begging of feb. The lady said it was a girl and was really rude through the whole scan. She made a complaint to the manager and got another scan at 23 weeks she made sure it would be a different person to do the scan. Baby is def a boy very visable boy peepee.
Good luck with your next scan hope it goes better and you get a good look at bubs bits.

if your sole purpose to go back is to find out what you are having i would wait the extra time cause 'it' will be more developed - we went for another scan at 29 weeks and there was no denying he was a he....
not good about your scan experience though

They are repeating the anatomy scan again so I have to go before 23 weeks.
Have now rebooked for next week at 21 weeks.
Yes I really want to know what I'm having....but I also wasn't happy with how he said he got measurements, when after talking to the head guy, he should have measured other parts with it. So overall I'm not confident with what was done...so pleased all will be done again.

With Leah I had a scan at 20 weeks and they couldn't really see anything due to where she was and the fact she was very little for 20 weeks, so had to have another scan at 25 weeks (not that I was complaining!!) where everything was nice and visable. With Joel they advised after my 12 week scan to wait until 22 weeks so that things would be bigger and easier to see. Both times they were 100% accurate with what the sex was as well. |

Nefertit - what a terrible experience.
You probably could have done the scan better than he could by the sounds of it!! And to have your pubes showing too....I don't think thats normal. What a weirdo!

I'm so glad you complained. You never know, he may have had other complaints and this is the last straw.

All the best with your next scan!

Is the sole purpose the anatomy scan? Because I know if they want you back for other reasons its to be done at certain times (like I had a detailed heart scan that had to be performed at 27 weeks as thats the optimum time for example).
But anyway at the guy! I had a couple of terrible sonographers, ones who told me things they weren't allowed to and made conclusions that weren't correct which led to hospitalisation etc, so I can sympathise!
Would just like to say though, that sometimes you do have to show pubic hair depending on where baby is lying. Jack was always super low so I got to the point of not caring that I had to whip my pants down lower lol

I also had two extra scans through my pregnancys, i had the normal one at 20 weeks with both but then i got asked to have another scan at 24weeks as they couldnt see the heart valves properly, and by 24 weeks it would be much clearer. I Think thats why they get you back at a certain amount of weeks...

I'm only going back because I made a complaint about the sonographer. I do not trust anything he did in the scan, and would rather have my usual sonographer do one as he has done about 6 on me and I trust him more.
With this one I had done last week, he couldn't answer simple questions and didn't go over anything with me. He did say that things looked normal after I asked.
Obviously the manger felt my concerns were enought for another scan to be perfomed, which I am grateful for.
