My baby has been acting very out of character for the past few days ...tonight he's burning up, 39.1 was his last temp reading, his cheeks are bright red ...and he's very restless in his sleep. Has been only picking at food for days (which I didn't think much of, he's always a fussy/picky eater) but he has been quite grizzly and I can see an eyetooth coming down. He's been tugging at his ears a little, no cold or sign of flu/congestion etc.
Not sure what to do? I'm not even sure if we have pamol in the house ...I'm really worried but theres no rashes of any kind and he seems to be breathing fine etc. Could it just be teething?
He's 19 months, weighs about 14.5-15kg ...I'm searching everywhere for pamol atm, any idea what the dosage is? How bloody useless am I....he's always such a chirpy wee poppet and we never use the stuff .. |

I would get him checked out. Isnt 39 quite high?
If i remember rightly dosage would be about 4mls for his age?

Hey Steph, just quickly - when you find the pamol..
If the pamol you have is 120mg/5mls (it will say on the label), he should have 8mls (dosage for 14-15kg).
 If the pamol is 250mg/5mls, it's 4mls.
Don't panic, if you don't find the pamol I think you need to get some, if you give him pamol and his temp is still high then ring plunketline or get him checked out |

I'm wondering if our digital thermometer is accurate, I've just checked again and it's giving me results ranging from 37.8-39.3!!!! WTF!
He feels pretty warm though, maybe I have him overdressed ...err what else can I do other than pamol?

You could try stripping clothes off him, cool flannel on his forehead..

Ok his temp seems to be staying around 38.6-38.8ish. I have him in a long sleeved singlet, long sleeve t-shirt and polarfleece sleepsuit ...If he wakes up again I'll strip him down a layer.
He's never had a temp etc before so I'm all new to this I found the pamol also, says 120 on the label but on the instructions label it says only 4mls ...BUT we were given this bottle when he was 10 months (going by the chemist labels date) ....umm would it still be ok to give him, when do they expire?

Yeah they just put on the dosage for his weight at the time. I have a chart my mum gave me from the doctors. It will still be fine, pamol keeps for ages I freaked out the first time Harry had a temp too... he had one tonight too, random, think it might be teeth coming through.

I think its probably ok to give it to him and I would definately strip him down a bit.  That sounds like a lot to be sleeping in...especially the polarfleece.

Yeah I usually put him in a sleepsuit because he doesn't like having any blankets on him and our room gets pretty cold of a night time.
He's sleeping soundly now, but still bright red and quite hot ...and I've taken the sleepsuit off his top half but left it covering his little leggies

Daniels got up to 40.1 the other day. We alternate between giving pamol then 2 hrs later if its not back to normal, give fenpead then wait 2 hrs, still high more pamol. But the 3rd lot is usually not needed.. this is what they do when you take them to the hospital and their temps are up that high. And just give lots of fluids

How is he doing this morning Steph?
If his temp is still up I'd think about taking him to the doc, I tend to take mine if the temp gets over 39 degrees or 38.5 if I don't know what's causing the fever.

He appears to be doing much better this morning - would you believe we've only just woken up? Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the clock...
His temp is 37.3 -37.4 at the moment, he still feels a little clammy but he seems in a good enough mood (erm dancing to Pink as we speak rofl).Full of smiles so far.
We had 4 heavy wet nappies during the night, Everytime he woke up wanting booby I let him feed off me, for comfort and fluid intake. Mind you I'll probably regret that today when he won't eat any food ..
Oh and he has a bit of a raspy cough and his nose was running a little last night, we have an eye tooth soooo close to cutting through the gum ...I REALLY think it must have be something to do with that |
