Cots, Hammocks, Moses Baskets ??

I have none of the above but my SIL has a moses basket and swears by it. Great as it's so portable and you can take it into the lounge for day sleeps, round to people's places etc etc. The only thing I would say is that I was surprised by how small it is for how pricey they are (so may only last a couple of months depending on how big bubba is)- if you do get one i'd highly suggest having a look on Trade Me rather than buying it new.

I had a second hand old school style cradle which was FAB. Again, i'm sure you could pick this up super cheap on TM. It was great as you can rock it (a lifesaver for getting DD to sleep) and way bigger than standard bassinettes/moses baskets. It didn't come with a mattress so I got foam cut at pararubber and sewed on a cover. Bit of a tangent but I LOVED the cradle and that would be my suggestion!

I loved the hammock but at 8 weeks my daughter decided she hated it. Was very glad I'd gotten it as a second hand bargain. I do have my fingers crossed for my next baby though. We have a hook in the ceiling in the living room but used to hang it from doorways when we went visiting instead of a portable bassinet.
I didn't have a Moses basket but close friends did and yeah, they're smaller that a regular bassinet so despite their cost they don't last as long. I never understood that people go on about the portability either, our bassinet wasn't that hard to move around/lift.
You can survive for quite a while without a cot if you have a big bassinet. So plenty of time to look around. This is what I lashed out on price wise (well ok, my MIL lashed out) because I wanted really solid for several kids, they get used for quite a while and I was hoping for reasonable resale value as well. So we have a touchwood cot and that ticked all those boxes. They are expensive though and certainly not essential to spend that much.

We have a naturesway hammock and a pamco cot.

The hammock was great, but after a few weeks my daughter decided she hated it - and she slept in her cot with her arms stretched out (she also hated being swaddled).I like that you can move them around the house, we have the stand and hooks. You can pick them up pretty cheaply on TM and just buy a new mattress.

Pamco cots, ours broke within weeks of using it, one of the side bars snapped. Then recently our then 12mo was standing up shaking the rails, as all 12mth olds do, and all the side rails popped out! My brother is a builder and he fixed it for us so that it was stronger than new, but i would be very wary of buying one, as if its that flimsy it is a really danger. Do a search in the product section on pamco cots here before you buy one. We are looking at buying another cot for baby #2, and thinking Mocka or thecotstore.co.nz

Living in a small 2 storey house where most of the living is done downstairs, we would have been lost without our moses basket in the early days. We bought a Baby Trendz one which is well made (on special, too) so I'm sure it will last us at least another baby. :)

I would ask around friends/family that have had kids to see if anyway has a basinnete/moses basket thing u can borrow- baby only uses them for a few months max, they are expensive - u cal always scrub them and buy a new mattress cheaply!

We had a hammock for DS, but he hated it. He never slept more than 15 minutes in it.
We were given a family bassinet And he slept in that until he was about 4 months old, then went into a touchwood cot.
