i've been full time cloth mum with charli for a week now and am like alot of you here....totally addicted!
but i don't know what to stuff in my pocket nappies for night time? nikki, i know you told me once, but i can't find the thread i use prefold/covers during the day and have been stuffing allsorts (prefolds/inserts/whatever is clean)into the pockets at night which seem to be working but it's very bulky, maybe i'm going overboard what fabric is best for night time?
is there an order that they should go in when you stuff them in the pocket?
where is a good (cheap) place to buy them?
 thanks ladies |

You should see the size of Maddie's butt sometimes in a night nappy!! We're currently using 2 inserts and a booster. We've also found hemp inserts really good as well.
To be honest it's often just trial and error to find what works.

I use two microfibre inserts and now that Hannah is a tummy sleeper I have to fold over a booster and put that at the front. We had always got away with just two inserts tho which is relatively trim.

I've found that we're fine with just one microfibre insert and a booster with our Fuzzis, for both day and night, Erin isn't a big wetter (just a big pooper!).

with my big boy i use a flat (old fashioned with red stripe) and a microfibre insert. greenbeans sell some nice inserts, very absorbent. in my bamboo pocket fitted i use a hemp prefold and a BKT (burley knit terry) insert - that is for my 18 mth old tho as we use fitteds with wool covers with him as he is prone to rashes.

when Caitlin was still in her small FBs I put her to bed with 3 inserts as she is very piddley, but now that she is in the petites which have a longer insert, she's fine all night on one insert and a shorter doubler.
I've heard that the hemp and bamboo inserts are really aborbent - but I think they can get a bit wiffy (and who needs that on top of urine smells! )

I just use a cloth flat or a prefold folded the way Gsmum showed me ( ) - into thirds then in half lengthways then fold a flap up the front for extra absorbency. They do the gremlins from 10pm till around 7amish including a night feed so they need to be absorbent, but they are on the bulky side.

I use microfibre and hemp or microfibre and bamboo. Both work well. The bamboo is a little less bulky as it is a bit softer than hemp but overall I think you are going to get a relatively bulky nappy at night. Unfortunately.
Tweedles sells pretty cheap inserts. I like the look of them! Ask Kaz, she's just bought some And as for order, just have the microfibre sitting closest to Charli's bum as that's the fast absorbing stuff.
And funny about the smells Toni - my microfibre inserts smell far worse than my natural fibre ones! Mind you, they have been in circulation a bit more.

You can make them easily if you are that way inclined too! Materials from www.greenbeans.co.nz

Ok so I might have to take back what I said before... woke up this morning to find the edges of the legs on Erin's singlet a bit damp... and what a dumb idea it was to take a whiff LOL So I might change things to having two inserts plus a booster at night, see if that fixes it.

with my pockets...i use 1 microfibre insert and 2 hemp inserts overnight and rhiannon is that from 6pm-7am...and ive had no leaking or anything...although i have found that a cloth nappie folded to the same shape as the insert works well also...i use to put the cloth nappy between 2 inserts.
I love the hemp inserts...i find through the day that 1 micorfibre insert and 1 hemp insert works well...for 4-5 hours

I brought the hemp inserts from www.tweedle.co.nz and it was $60 for 12 inserts which is really cheap
