We are currently with Vodafone, have been for 5 years now, and are about to move house, they have quoted $150 for a reconnection, that and a whole host of other problems we have encountered with them recently makes me want to look at other providers.
We currently pay $100/month for 60gb and local phone calls.
So, who are you with, and do you recommend them??

Far out, that is stink for the shifting, I don't think we've ever been charged when we shifted!

Ring the other companies & see what they'll do for you.

I know right, especially seeing as we've been with them for so long. Certainly doesn't make you want to stay with them.

Slingshot seem to do a reasonable deal and the connection fee is only $52, but DH is worried that they'll be really slow and after googling they don't have great reviews.

 Telecom seem quite expensive.

I can't seem to find many others that will service us down here without being really expensive

Do you have Orcon there? That's who we'd use (good rates and packages) if we didn't have access to the Telstra InHome stuff.

we were with slingshot and had so many ongoing problems with their connection- would never use them again. Now we are moving house, after doing (well DH doing it) some research have decided to go with Orcon

Wow that sucks about vodafone! We are with them and our modem just broke so the guy at vodafone sent us a new modem with wireless for free. Guess it depend who you talk to? You could ring and say you will leave if they don't do it cheaper (or free), worse that can happen is they will say no?

We have never paid a connection fee. Use to be with Telecom and then moved over to Orcon.

Orcon is great unless you have to call the helpdesk. that can take a bit of time and they can tell you nonsense (hubby works with the same technology so knows when they talk nonsense) but otherwise it is great.

And we didnt pay a connection fee.

We have been with Slingshot for years and I have never had any problems - and we are online pretty much all the time for one reason or another. I think the issues with connectivity probably depend on where you live? We are in Wellington (have lived all over town). I can't remember if there were re-connection fees but I don't think so. The only issue with moving house is there is usually a few days "downtime" because they can't start the stuff they need to do until after Telecom has released the line (which can take up to 48 hours after you get the phones sorted) and it takes a few working days after that.

So I will buck the trend and recommend Slingshot :)

We have Orcon, $75 a month for phone and 30G broadband. The speed is good - better than telecom and the wireless range is excellent. I asked when we signed up about moving as we will be moving soon and we get 1 free move and then there is a cost but cant remember the amount - I do remember thinking it wasn't an unreasonable fee though.

We have Orcon and pay $70 per month for phone and internet. We have the 'lite' version so essentially dont pay for the phone rental component of the modem. We just use a normal cordless phone instead.

We've had it 4 months now and havent had any major issues. Speed is generally good but on the odd occasion I need to restart the modem if the net is down. One thing I dont like is, if the internet is down so is the phone. But thats not very often. Happy customer here so far.

Thanks for all the suggestions ladies.
After completing a customer satisfaction survey I was contacted by Vodafone who have offered to waive the reconnection fee, so we will stick with them for now :-)
