so when I did my food shop this week I did it with making winter meals in mind, so lots of soups, caseroles, homemade pies etc, and very surprisingly it was about $30 less than i have been spending in recent weeks...not often i leave the supermarket feeling good about what i have spent...
i only went to pak n save, no butchers or veges shops but have to say i got heaps of food,
lots and lots of potatos, kumura, pumpkin etc, and a big variety of other veges,
slow cooker meats, all the ingredients to make fresh bread,
and i stocked up on tins of food,
maybe by focussing on cooking much simpler healthy meals is what will save my budget..

I went to PnS last night expecting to get bulk items cheaper, they didn't have the flour or things like that in bulk. Was a bit peeved really especially as it's not very close to us.

I do also find its cheaper. But really depends what things are on special at your local supermarket.
Our cheapest potatoes are $7 for a 3kg bag which really isnt much and doesnt last long.

Casserole steak is great though, you dont need much meat in the slow cooker just bulk it up with vege

PNS has a big special on this week for watties cans- fruit, tomatoes, baked beans, spaghetti. Perfect for me as I was running low so I stocked up, no need to get any for a while! We have a local vege shop that you can pick your own at which makes it much cheaper than anywhere else.

I always thought winter food would be more expensive but i have found it cheaper as well. I guess because you buy crap steak for stew and one pumpkin becomes a whole meal |
