So I've been told by plunket to try switching from a bottle to a cup now, mainly for her middle of the day milk. She knows how to drink from a cup but if I were to give it to her herself she would probably tip it over herself and drink a little bit and throw it out of the highchair.
Obviously this is what babies do, but what are some tips that may help during this transition between bottle and cup, what have you done before?

We aren't on cups yet, but Jody has her milk or water from a cup with a lid and straw.
She drinks from an actual cup if it's a warm day and we're outside as things get very messy! Also, she has cups in her bath that she drinks from (yes, I know she pees in there but she will drink the water with or without a cup, so why not get some practice where it's not so messy   )

When they say cup, it can be a sippy cup not necessarily a normal open cup. In saying that C has been drinking out of a glass cup since he was 11mths old. He has one of those rubber bibs with a spill/crumb catcher and either sits on the floor or in his highchair and I just need to remind him to use both hands and take it slowly. Sometimes I need to regulate the flow but usually he manages well and skulls back 150mls of milk in about 2 mins!

I had the same talk from plunket too Dani. The nurse was quite clear they should be using or learning to use an actual cup, not just a sippy one. Occasionally I hold a mug for her to drink from so she is learning how to handle the water coming from it. I am yet to let her take control...but will soon. I will prob just have a towel under the high chair in preperation

I second letting them use a cup in the bath, DD drinks bathwater anyways and she learned quite fast how to drink without spilling

Interesting what different plunkets tell you.
We've only introduced a proper cup recently. He does drink well from it but doesn't get the concept of it not having a lid, so he'll bend over & spill it.

One trick can be when starting to just put a teeny amount in the bottom of the glass, and keep refilling. In time you can increase the amount as they become more confident using the cup/glass. Certainly there will be mess and spillage to start!

They wont mean cup as in what we would drink out of Dani, they mean a cup as in sippy cup with a lid

hrrmm okay, thanks guys. DD also drinks the water in the bath with the cups lol!
