DH has a cellphone with Telecom and it's about time I got one so we can do quick txts to each other instead of having to ring. But I'm not keen to pay a heap LOL. So I've been trying to work out whether it's worth talking to Telecom and Vodafone and seeing if either of them will offer me a free one It would have to be prepay (cause DH's is on our account), any suggestions on who to go with (I'm inclined to go with Telecom simply because DH/home phone is) and how to get a good deal? |

You can get Telecom OneBill - where it's included on the home phone bill but you don't have a "plan" as such, you only pay for what you use. DF is on a plan, and I am on OneBill - so we only pay for whatever calls I make plus the $10 TXT - we have recently done a huge change with our plans and it's saved us over $200 a month by working it this way. I prefer it because it means I am always able to ring someone if I need to without having to worry about making sure there's enough money on my phone. Not sure about the free phones thing though...

Yea DH is on OneBill, which is why I'd need to go prepay.

I have just swapped back to vodafone but only cos hubby is on vodafone and we can do the best mates thing otherwise i would have stuck to telecom (bout to sell my phone if you want a cheap one!) If DH is on telecom then i would go with them. you can get free phones if you sign up to a 24 month contract.

I have both I have Willie on Best Mates on my Vodafone phone which drives him nuts coz I can call him whenever I like while he is at work I have it on prepay and don't use it to make calls at all.
And I have $10 text on my Telecom phone which is on OneBill and I also use it to make phone calls as I get an itemised bill each month for tax purposes.

I'm on Telecom (its on our phone bill) and DH is on prepay. I switched from V Fone to telecom about 2 years ago now and the difference in the bill is amazing. I was paying $80 a month on Vodafone now $30 a month on Telecom (incl $10 txt). That phone is a great phone DH had one till it got pinched at work    ( I won it when I changed to Telecom with the Lions comp).

i've always been with vodafone and so has DH but i would recommend going to telecom......now there's something i thought i would never say! vodafone gives me great discounts on phones, my last one i got a $500 phone for $100, but they never give you free upgrades like telecom do

See i find the opposite, I used to be on vodafone and changed because i was spending so much on topping up but then switched to telecom and realised im texting almost 1000 txts a month (no idea how that is, hubby is horrified) so Im paying for 500 txts at .20c PLUS i make more phonecalls because i can and i dont notice till i get the bill at the end of the month PLUS i realised i spend on average $40 a month ringing hubby from my home phone so Ive switched back to vodafone, getting the best mates thing which means i can ring hubby and txt him as much as i want for $6 a month plus i got that free for 6 months and 2000 txts to vodafone people a month so i should save there aswell cos most of the people i knew who were on telecom have moved or switched aswell so wont be txting telecom as much. I was on telecom for 3 months and in that time averaged $100 at least a month just for my cellphone (dont tell hubby) not including what i was paying to ring hubby from home line so Im thinking if I give myself say $30 a month credit and when that goes to bad, have to wait till the following month I should in theory save myself at least $100 a month!
