Was just reading on another forum about how long babies are sleeping during the night and a lot of the mums are saying they keep their baby awake as much as possible during the day so that baby sleeps through at night....I think this is very odd, has anyone heard of doing that? Bearing in mind that the babies are all around Liams age, 10 weeks...
Poor babies must be exhausted?

That's crazy! A baby will sleep through the night when he/she is ready to. I think keeping a baby awake during the day like that, will cause a hell of a lot more problems, ie overtired, grumpy baby!
From memory, DS was having a nap every few hours at that age.

Definitely ridiculous. DS2 is 12 weeks and he is still only up for 1 hour to 1.5 hours tops before going back to bed during the day. And last night he slept from 8pm to 6am!
Am sure he would be hysterical if I tried to keep him awake all day.... |

I'm firmly in the camp of people who believe sleep breeds sleep.

I'm with Aquarius & kebakat on this one. Very strong believer in sleep breeding sleep. Keeping a small baby awake just gives you a very overtired, grouchy and impossible to settle baby at night |

At 8 weeks my little man is awake anywhere from 30 - 90 minutes at a time. Depends on the time of day and how the sleep before was. I just watch for tired signs and put him to sleep. I wouldnt keep him up all day - I dont think he would sleep better at night.

I wouldn't recommend it.I've been told sleep begets sleep. IE, the more they sleep, the more likely they are to sleep.

Plus trying to get an overtired baby to sleep is excruciating and highly stressful for both parties.

 Not my idea of fun.

Those poor babies, they must scream all day! I hope they're allowed at least a couple of naps Babies don't usually sleep through at 10 weeks anyway, do they? It would be nice, but it shouldn't be expected...

Weirdo huh. And how exhausting having baby awake all day...bad enough the times when Mr Liam is having a poo day and stays awake (like today sigh...)

Oh gawd! Bugger that, I think they are crazy. Jackson slept 7pm to 5am from 9 weeks to 4 months then started waking again, sometimes up to 2 times a night. But for the last week he's started doing 7pm to 5am again!
I would never keep him up all day, he'd be ropable. And like Jelly said, it definitely shouldnt be expected |

I think DS was on 4 x 45min naps at that time and if'd he'd been willing to sleep more I'd have been over the moon!
That's really young to try to keep them up. I'd believe it might be a good idea for a child but not a baby!

   Sleep promotes sleep!
DD was having 3 two hour sleeps during the day and was sleeping 12 hours at night.
Lately she's been having 3-4 45min naps and she's been waking in the night and not because she's hungry. I'm sure her bad day sleeping is affecting her night sleeping. There's nothing else that's changed.
