I received the fabric from Greenbeans and I have been studying TNN website. I see they have the option of gussetts to help reduce explosions.
Are gussetts necessary/helpful or are they just extra work when making the nappy?

Man I can't wait to get making these nappies and give them a go on Lauren, how sad am I? Nappies never used to excite me at all!

I think they are just extra work. I don't like them much anyway. They have a tendancy to gape away from the legs a bit and leave red marks on Daniels thighs.. we love roll out fleece and I think they hold explosions better.

Leo had always worn nappies with gussets because I'd believed they were better (only going on the sale blurb of the nappies I owned!) - but I recently bought a Foxybots which has the rolled out fleece and I love it. I only use it as a night nappy but it works better than any of my other nappies with gussets - I think because overnight the extra wee may wick out the stitching of the gussets? Also, not having a gusset means there's more width in the pocket so I find it much easier to stuff. He's not pooed in his Foxybots though so I can't comment on how well it would hold in, but I'm guessing it would be fine. I personally like the look of rolled out fleece too, it just looks more comfy.
 Vic xx

I just made my first nappy!!! I used the wee weka pattern and followed the first set of instructions (when she makes the orange nappy) and this is the result
I am so chuffed with my nappy!!! Ok, I did break the needle at the end and havent quite sewn all thr way round the last velcro tab! but hey! not bad for a really crap sewer!
Peachy, as an indication I used the S/M size and thought it would be huge but made it anyway...I possibly did too big a seam allowance (1cmish) and the result is a perfect fitting nappy that is really trim.....ok that limits us on inserts.
I currently have an ecobubs trifold in there.

   Go Peachy!
We have some homemade (not by me!) pockets with gussets, they were good when the girls were fully b/f and having huge explosions but now they're no better/worse than any of the others they have. Manda who sewed them did say that the FOE on the gussets was a monkey to sew.

I used the wee weka pattern for S/M pocket. It is a bit on the small side even though the pattern looks humungus!

Thats the one I have printed off to. It does look huge, I thought that too!
I am going to give it a go tomorrow hopefully, my day turned to complete custard today, I was a bit too disorganised to get sewing, but one good thing came of today, I joined Weight Watchers, I've got 9.5kgs to loose to get back to my pre-preggy weight!

 O.k wayyyyyyyyy off topic!

Well done nzpiper your nappy looks fab!
