I was never going to have any of that hideous tacky merchandised Disney cr@p in my house - fast forward 4 years and you can't go anyway in the house without seeing Dora lurking somewhere      Have resisted the duvet covers, that's about it!

I was going back to fulltime work at the end of my PPL - I went back to very casual part-time, and have only gone back to full-time this year - so they were 2.5. I was never going to have "licenced" stuff in my house...now I look around and see Dora everywhere...

I was not going to be one of those mums who let their child run around naked or pants-less.
DS spends most sunny days naked (only at home though!) Nappy changes are just a huge drama at the moment.

I was never going to let my child sleep in my bed. Sleep was going to be strict and no-nonsense - oops, it appears I'm a softy!
There would be no food grazing as he walked around the house, food was to be served in the highchair - yeah right!

My house would not be taken over by toys - hmmm, it's starting to look that way...interior decorating by Fisher Price!

I was never going to allow junk food - now I carry a bag of crackers/biscuits/chips/lollies everywhere.
I would never co-sleep - then I realised I'd sleep standing up if it meant I'd get some sleep so co-slept for as long as needed.

I would never have an unruly child in a mall/restaurant or on a plane. A few weeks back I was the mum with the screamer on the plane getting dirty looks from the other passengers.

I'd never allow Barbie/Bratz/anything similar - so far we've stuck to this.

I'd never eat my kids leftover food - have stuck to this.

 I'd have homebirths - ended up with 2 c-sections.

Meals would always be eaten at the dinner table. In my defence, DH has commandeered it for his computers and we'd eat there if we were able.

DD wouldn't have junk food or watch TV ha ha she'd had both these by her 1st Birthday.
I was certain I'd want to return to work after the 1st year, now I'm doing everything I can to stay home till DD goes to school.

I am sure I have soooo many of these... but I can't really remember anything specific... I do quite enjoy seeing people break their own rules though - it is good! You have to go with the flow sometimes!!
I remember my SIL always commenting on my baby proofing and how with her first two children she just taught them not to touch/get into things... baby number three came along and now EVERYTHING is baby proofed - all kids are different and so it pays not to judge!!

Wow, that's a bit of an eye-opener, xXELAx - I had never thought to think that it's a good thing to do something you said you wouldn't. You're right, it is, you're showing your flexible enough to change your mind. My lesson for the day |

love this thread! my baby is due in May, and this is really making me think about all the things i have in my mind that are "set in concrete". sounds like i may eat my words at some stage, but y'know what? turns out that's ok too! nice to see there are some no-tv mums out there tho - that's one thing i am hoping to achieve but... we shall just see how it goes |

I think you can do anything if it's important enough to you, nannikin (well, most things - some things, like natural births vs c-sections can end up out of your control). So if no TV is that important, I'm sure you can. It's just that it's surprising how many things you thought were so important suddenly don't matter as much in the face of the alternative |

yeh trying to keep an open mind re c-secs - MW thought baby was breech at my last appt so trying not to freak out about the possibility i may not get my natural birth! would much rather have a healthy baby and a c-sec vs the alternative though |
