I got a positive preg test on Sunday (cycle day 29) but then on Monday AF arrived. I've always had pain free periods but this one is so painful. Wind passing through my lower bowel is intensely sore, my abdomen is cramping constantly and any pressure on the outside of my lower abdomen is also really sore. I've never felt anything like it. This is my 3rd period since having Ashley (now 14 months old) and the other 2 were pain-free.
Does all this sound like typical period pain? Not sure if I should sit back with my hot water bottle and wait for it to pass or what. Seems odd that after 18 years of pain-free periods I should suddenly get so much pain. And surely an such early/ miscarriage wouldn't cause the pain?

Hi FionaS, sorry I don't have any advice but didn't want to read and run.  Maybe try giving Healthline 0800 611 116 (I think that's the number) a call and chat to a nurse.   |

Thanks. Turns out it's a virus combined with a miscarriage and possibly a mild bladder infection. Charming! Still not sure why my abdomen is so very swollen and hard. He said my intestines are filled with gas but I don't feel/seem gassy IYGWIM!!
HCG today, after 3 days of bleeding, is at 69. They are insisting on doing another test tomorrow as if it keeps rising slowly and the bleeding and pain continue, it could be ectopic. However, I'm certain it'll drop and it'll just be a plain old miscarriage. So common, but never nice.

Oddly, 7 days after bleeding stopped, hcg is up to 590. So not doubling every 48 hours, more like every 62. Doc is sending me for a scan to see if it is ectopic or something. So strange!
