Have used Kew hospital, didn't have any problems. found the wait times a bit frustrating but I think it would be the same everywhere.

Sorry you haven't been successful. Has the doctor found the reason you might not be conceiving with the ultrasound? I'm not sure there is a fertility specialist down that far - you might have to travel up to Dunedin: Ph: 03 474 0999 ext 8576 - Otago Fertility Receptionist Email: OtagoFertility.Services@southerndhb.govt.nz

You can always mix private with public (eg, get a private appointment to speed up first stages, and if you end up needing ivf long term you can switch to public.)

Hey Erin - I use OFS in Dunedin, just call up and make an appointment with Wayne or Barbara to get your foot in the door - will probably still be a 2-3 month wait but way faster than public!

Hi Erin Am also in Invercargill, and going through Kew. Fertility stuff is done through the womans health clinic, wait time I was told was 6 months but it all depends on your situation. I think there is a private gynecologist in Invercargill but not sure if they do fertility. Hope that helps a bit

Thanks ladies, that was heaps of help. Has been a bit of a mish of a week phoning round trying to find out where my doc had referred me (Kew = 4 month wait for appt), how to book a private appt at OFS (1 month wait) and then trying to get doc to send my details to OFS (he was making it harder than it had to be)... all the while trying to be discreet in my open plan office! Think I've finally got it sorted though; looking forward to getting my appt time confirmed on Monday.

Glad you got your appointment Pinky! If you want, there's a Trying 12+ mths thread in the planning for pregnancy forum where you can talk to other ladies who've been through the journey.

I've had slow service from Kew - end of every waiting list.
From first referral GP to first specialist appt wait time was 6 months...
Wait time for HSG- 5 months...
They told me 5 months for lap/Hystero and I waited 6 months. When I couldn't take their first avail appt (short notice and couldn't get leave from work) the admin lady said they would have to drop me off the list and relist me again as they couldn't have me waiting (read: looked bad for their patient wait list??) Was told once this op was done THEN we would be referred to OFS. Could be another 6 months. I am 39 and we have been trying for 2 years.
So after all this frustration my partner and I are getting a bank loan to fund IVF elsewhere. Not ideal but once you go private it's great how fast it happens :)
