Topic: Fussy on one side     Posted: 04 March 2010 at 9:52pm |

Is there a way to make a baby less fussy on one side? Cooper pops off and won't stay on properly on my left quite often and I think sometimes I assumed he just wasn't hungry when he did this, but I started offering formula top ups yesterday and he was doing that and then drank 80ml!! I squeezed and there was milk there, so it wasn't like it was all gone but it looked quite creamy so I might have already offered that side before (I'm a bit forgetful about which side I've last done) so not sure if that's the problem either.

I'm a bit worried that it's going to upset my milk supply if I start doing loads of top ups so if I can fix this it would be better and I'd rather not overfeed on the right and end up lopsided either
Strangely it was the right side that I initially had problems with mastisis and cracked nipples and avoided so it's kind of weird.

IME babies do seem to have a preference for one side over the other. you could try a different hold like the rugby hold and see if that is better or offer from the less popular side first.

I'm lopsided I hope like hell that it comes back normal!
I think I've got a boob that produces a let down fast & far more milk than the other. I try to start on the slower side more often than the faster side.

Bella is often fussy one side too, also, sometimes I'll try feeding her on say my right side and she will fuss and pop off and get mad, so I switch to my left and she will drink happily, funny girl lol, even though my right side had plenty of milk!

My Bella crys when i feed her on the right side, its wired , jacob never did. I wondered if its cos im on the mini pill?i started that in january and ever since then shes been crying after my let down comes down she gets grumpy . mayb the milk isnt coming out faster enough for her or something..
Plus i think my girl is ready for solids now she was 2mths early at birth so her corrected age next week will be 5mths.

I had this probem, someone suggested to me that I try feeding Mac laying down. Once I worked out HOW to do that, it was sweet. Never had an issue with a prefered side since.

amelia was so fussy on one side that at 4months (she 8 1/5 now ) she stopped feeding off the right one all-together . i freaked out thinking there was something wrong with it , but i dont think there was , plunket advised me i could still feed off one side so now 4 1/2months later she is still only taking the left side and the right side has all dried up , im very lopsided first thing in the morning but during the day you cant even tell unless she hasnt fed for a few hours .
