Oh dear turns out CRC and carpet DO NOT mix well together
Luckily my carpet- which is only a year old, is dark brown however DH tried to clean the carpet and now its a really big dark patch. and to add insult to injury its right in the middle of the lounge floor!
Please does anyone know what will get it out? I thought maybe a rug doctor but really dont want to make it worse...
 Edited for bad spelling
 Any ideas?

Yeah I was going to say call the insurance company, they will send a cleaning company out to get the stain out. If that fails they will replace your carpet.

But check your policy, they only usually now replace the carpet in that room, and if you can't get the same carpet you'll have it missmatched.

There surely must be something that would get it out?

   Thanks very much ladies!
My concern was exactly that the whole house of carpet would have to be replaced and that if they would only replace one room it may not match! If in fact they replaced any at all! Though a lighter coloured carpet would prob lighten the house up a bit and this carpet is terrible to vaccum!
Babe, I have heard that white vinegar is useful for removing all sorts of stains, do you just dilute it and dab it on? Im worried that the stain will still be there and i'll have a trouble smell too!
I feel like such a tool!, I was taking my cross trainer apart becaus it broke and I left the bolts on the carpet without really thinking about it and went to bed thinking that I would deal with it in the morning... however during the night the CRC (cos it had this stupid squeak in it that was quite possibly the most annoying sound ever!) off the bolts seeped into the carpet..... , so basically my laziness was my downfall I never ever thought about it!
Do you think that if I tried the rug dr and it didnt work that I could then claim insurance?
 Edited for terrible spelling

Once the vinegar dries I don't think it would have a smell, worth trying. Acetone nail varnish remover would be worth a shot as well, just try it on a less noticible area first.

Found this online & it supports the nail varnish remover suggestion:

Scrape excess grease off with a dull−edge knife or metal spoon. Spray with WD−40 and let stand a few minutes. Blot with a paper towel. Respray with WD−40 work in with a brush taking care not to brush and damage the carpet. Then blot stain again with a clean soft towel. If stain remains, repeat the procedure. It can take several goes to completely remove the grease. Acetone is also effective

I would say ring the insurance company first as well.
When I worked for an insurance company we would send Jaes Carpet cleaners out (They are usually about $60) if that didnt work then we would do a referal for the likes of carpet court.
I would say this would be the best way to go, rather than spending money on a rug doctor which the insurance company might not cover if it turns out the stain doesnt come out.

Just an example - we have just gone to our insurance company as got our fire sweept and some of the soot 9which apparently doesn't norammly happen) got onto our cream covered carpet. The insurance company are sending a cleaner free of charge to hopefully get the stuff off (mind I have tried to clean and no luck)
