     Topic: Avent bottle feeding 4mths +     Posted: 05 December 2006 at 1:05pm |

We have always used the Avent bottles and teats etc following the different sized flow teats or using the variable flow ones. I just looked on their website as I just realised we've been using the 3mths one for a while now (I'm such a bad mum! ) so I wanted to know where I could get the 4mths+ teats from. Avent says that the next stage is the sipper (no more teats).
Caitlin has been getting a bit fussy with her bottle over the past week or so (so I'm wondering if the milk isn't coming fast enough for her now), but I don't think she is ready for a sipper - or maybe she is?!?! What are the signs? or is it just an age thing?
 Thanks
 Confused bottle mum of Auckland

So which number of the Avent teats are you on? I think the 'highest' they go is the variable flow one, with the slit opening... but I will check my old stash of Avent teats and see what I've got... I'm pretty sure I bought every single type they had before we switched to Tommee Tippee.

she's on the slit variable flow but it only has 3 lines on it (and if it remember correctly, the box said "to 3mths") on it.

The variable flow one is from three months... should be fine for her, but if you think it is too slow you can either make the hole bigger with a skewer heated in boiling water or try the Infanti brand teats which also fit the Avent bottles.

Pur make the wide neck medium flow (3-6 months) ones Toni and I believe they fit the wide neck advent bottles just fine. You can buy them at Woolworths.

P.S, If you loosen the cap it makes the formula flow faster ... can be a bit leaky though.

I'm a bit hesitant changing the brand as we have never had any probs with these. I might just see how she goes, might just a yet another "phase" lol

Ok, have done some research on the net and one of their websites says that the 3 hole one (medium flow) is suitable up to six months, and I have a bunch of those if you want them and haven't already got them. It says that the four hole teats are from six months up, but I can't remember ever having seen them around, and also the "three line" position on the 'one slot / variable flow' teat is apparently equivalent to the four hole one, but I never used those much because as I mentioned we switched types of bottle.

Here's the link I was reading if you want to check it out for yourself anyway: http://www.avent.com/uk/en/bottlefeeding_silicone_teats_indepth.php

jake still uses his bottle and we just use the variable flow or 4 hole, whichever we can find. He hated the variable for a long time, though, mainly because mum is a dumba$$ who didn't know how to use them...durrr

I think we used the 3 hole one until Matthew was about 6 months, then went to the 4 hole one. They have them either at foodtown or farmers.

My sister is a rep for Avent (very handy). She was saying to try the no 4 teat. The ages they have on them are an indication only.   You will be able to tell if she is not ready for the no4 teat if the milk dribbles out the side of her mouth.

Alex was a fussy feeder...we put him on the no4 teat at 5 months and although he was still a fussy feeder he probably drank more milk as it flowed faster.

   Thanks for the info ladies!
I think we might get a 4 hole one just to give it a go. We discovered last night that Miss Caitlin would like to be walked around whilst she is having her feed! Well laa dee daa! heheh

Alex will have the first half of his bottle no problem. Then have a wee break and then we have to sing while he finishes it. His favourite songs are Jingle Bells and Twinkle Twinkle.
