Topic: Sling Help Please!     Posted: 15 November 2009 at 10:23pm |

I have a sling that I used for DS1 that was great and am using for DS2 but I find around this age they get too heavy for it and it starts hurting my neck.

I am loving the sling this tim ebut was wondering if there was one that is more recommended than others. I am not such a fan of wraps as they look too complicated for me

hmmm, if DS2 is already feeling too heavy in it I wonder if it's sized right? I assume you mean a pouch sling? If you hold it (empty) diagonally across you does it match you shoulder to hip or is it a little longer?

Wraps really aren't that hard but if you're set on a sling try someone like Unido, gorgy prints and custom sized so you could be sure it fits right. Or try a ring sling you can tighten to the right size, I've never used a ring sling personally though.

If you measured yourself its actually a tough measurement to get correct.

I measured myself and was 4cm out when the measurement was done by a "professional" (Shelley from Unido), so you may well be wearing the incorrect size, which is why it feels like she is heavy?
I carry Issy in a sling and I cant feel her weight at all (although I dont carry her for long periods of time like I did when she was under six months old and could lie in it).
I have a Dulce & Zoet and a Unido, I think the Unido is a trimmer fit when all other things are equal (size etc).
As Weegee said, a ringsling would be good (I found them comfy, but not something you can throw in your handbag) .. also if a wrap seems complicated, you could always try a "not so complicated" carrier, like a Kozy, Ergo, Manduca or Beco.
Elias will sleep for hours in our Ergo .. so we Ergo's in this house

Darn, you two beat me to it!
As has been explained by weegee and lilfatty, a two shouldered carrier like a meitai or a wrap might make things a bit more comfortable for you - that way the weight is a bit more evenly distributed.
What kind of sling is it that you are already using? I agree that with pouch slings fit can definitely be an issue, so it pays to make sure your measurements for sizing are correct.
My personal favorite is the Kozy carrier, followed closely by my woven wrap, and in third place would probably be my Ergo.

Ok, I have never really looked into slings so please forgive my description of my sling .
Its an American brand and I was sent it as a gift so just used it as had no intentions of buying one. It is adjustable at the back but have it at the tightest/smallest bit at the moment but feel like it is tugging on my neck a wee bit.
Will go off and google all the slings you guys have mentioned as def find it easier with bubs in a sling at times.

Can you take a photo? I second weegee's comment, if it's a bag sling please throw it in the rubbish ASAP (don't sell it on).
