   hi girls
I am making roman blinds for most of my house (have made my first one which was a pretty good sucess) but am wondering how wide you can go before you need to make curtains instead...does anybody know...or does anybody have a wide window at home which has a roman blind on it that they wouldn't mind measuring for me.
Aldo does half roman blinds and half curtains look funny????
The widest window I am looking at draping is 260cms

 thanks all

We have roman blinds in the kitchen. The window is about 280cm and we just got 2 blinds because 1 just wouldnt work and it looks good.

I think for that width you would have to split it like Stacey's. The bar at the bottom might bow a little bit I would think?

We have all romans in out lounge/dining except for a curtain on the french doors and I think it looks ok. I made our romans as well as it was too expensive to have them made. However some of the curtain people that came to give me a quote said I could have a single roman on the french door they just use some sort of pulley for the strings

thanks for your replys everyone. I have decided to go half and half, and make curtains with a french pleat on the 2 big windows. I didn't want to spend all that money on materal just to stuff it up and be annoyed with it not going up and down easily...so I have just got back from spending over $400 at Spotlight with their 20% off and now have a 30 meter roll off materal behind me...let the sewing begin!!!

Good luck! I'm not a sewer, so I'm getting my grandmother to make some roman's for us soon (trust the oldies better than myself and their slave labour is affordable lol)

What colour blinds are you getting? I'm so into redecorating at the moment, but I just live vicariously through everyone for now (told DH he needs a payrise!)

205cm is the maximum width you can have for any blind operating on a 'pully' system as that weight gets too much any bigger then that..

emz I bought a colour that is browny grey. It is a warm colour, since our house is a cold bungalow I wanted warm colours throughout. We are putting a kitchen in and I am having so much trouble deciding the colours for in there, spending $450 on curtain colours is a bit easier than spending $12000 on kitchen colours

Ooo nice! We're going with white and a black top in our kitchen to play it safe for when the 'in' colours change.

Oh golly, that's a good question LOL but honestly I have no idea Maybe some kind of slider feature inserted into the window sill and on the edge of the actual blind itself??

oh and Neeks, out of interest, do you know how you do it when you do not use a pully system | Hello there! I read your discussion because I too want to make some roman blinds for my kitchen. After giving it a thought, I realized I don't know what to do about the operating system, how to lower and raise them. I went online and found out there is such a thing as an automatic cord lock. It says right here: Within our range there is a colour or fabric texture to suit any dècor; a beautiful choice for any window making a definite impact. Made fully lined using the highest quality sateen and black out linings roman blind from our next day range is delivered to you mounted on an aluminium track with an automatic cord lock or choose the optional bead chain cassette operation. Do you know anything about this? Where I can get it from and how to install it on my own blinds? Any opinion is welcome, thanks! http://www.avsforum.com/t/1498308/looking-for-feedback-on-window-treatments-for-home-theater-room-motorized#post_24202425
