Topic: Migraines in early pregnancy     Posted: 02 June 2011 at 3:30pm |

SO have finally figured out why I have been feeling so terrible I thought it was just morning sickness but turns out on top of that I am suffering a constant migraine as well. Does anyone have any treatment ideas as obvious high powered painkillers arne't an option. I am currently trying acupuncture and drinking lots of water but Im open to suggestions?

Talk to your Dr as my sister ended up on Codine early on for her migranes
The other thing you can use (and suprisingly it helped me last week it never normally has any affect) was good old panadol - the 'bit' it breaks down to are too big to cross the placenta my dr told me, going to know!

I ended up taking codeine also. Although id only take it if i got one so bad i couldnt even move out of bed which was only a few times luckily.

Also mine were gone by the 3rd trimester. Well i havent had any since about 26 weeks.

Migraines are awful, hope you feel better soon

I found voltaren enough for mine and also do you know if anything is triggering it?? For me chocolate did so had to cut that out!

I also found powerade helped - my doc recommended it because it things the blood a bit or something so helps ease the pulsating headache!

I have heard that powerade is good for migraines, don't think we have it here though.

If you can get Maxalon wafers from your Dr they really help. They help with both the pain and the sickness. It's class B in pregnancy. I've used it 2 or 3 times this pregnancy, when migraine is really bad.

I didn't know you could have voltaren during pregnancy, interesting

Yeah, my midwife said it was fine as did my doctor so I was quite surprised because other mums had heard it was a big 'no-no' but not sure where they heard that from. The box I have said to consult your doctor so it may be a case by case thing?

I went to the doc and got a prescription for codine and some liquid panadol cos I can't take big pills at the moment! They feel like they get stuck in my throat and make me gag. As I suspected I haven't had a migraine since I got medication for them so not sure if it'll work but it's gotta be better then nothing!!!

Weird, I felt like I was getting the start of a migraine on Thursday, I got the tunnel vision and tingly hand, then started to get a headache on the left side of my head. I talked to my mw and she said i was probably just really dehydrated from the MS which is quite possible... and since I've been drinking Powerade (mostly for the electrolytes) I have felt a lot better. Weird though because I hadn't had any migraine symptoms in years.
