Topic: Why didnt I think of this sooner?! Posted: 10 July 2007 at 10:21pm |
|
My dad has just set up a wireless router so I now have broadband access anywhere in the house. So my laptop and I are in bed with the electric blanket on and poor Willie snoring next to me. This could be seriously dangerous, I might *never* get away from my computer, but how come I didn't think of this sooner! I am so much warmer and toastier than in my freezing office!

lol emma, we tried that, and we learnt to keep the power cord downstairs. that way we only have the length of the battery to play on the laptop before having to turn it off.
the bed is a perfect office, ask marion keyes

we have wireless to - up until Rhyley was born I would sit in bed (wayyy longer than I should of) 'playing' on my laptop. Its warm in the lounge here so haven't ventured into bed with it at night for a while. (sitting on the couch with my feet up does nicely) but oh yeah soooo much better than a cold office.

Not trying to be a party pooper or anything cause this is quite rare, but there was a story last year with videos circulating about a Dell laptop randomly exploding. A few more stories have circulated since then about various brands catching on fire...since then there have been recommendations not to use one on your lap Kind of defeats the purpose of a "lap" top huh?!
Story here

My dad had one of the Dell's with the faulty battery pack and it had to get sent back when they did the big recall. Fingers crossed my Compaq is a little safer

OUr computer is in our bedroom so it's nice in here, If I had my way we would have a laptop and wireless but that requires money we don't have at the moment.

Make sure that you have security (passwords) on your wireless, cos other people may be able to pick up your connection and use it! I know somebody naughty that did this.

We have been a wireless 'family' for years (we both work in IT), and couldnt imagine going back to the old wires and cords everywhere. We have a couple of power cords around the house so we can charge up wherever we are sitting.
I had read a few articles about the damage that 'wireless' waves can cause to unborn babies, but there are so many conflicting versions of fine vs bad, that I have decided not to worry too much about it. I am careful though. I always have my laptop on a cushion between my bump and the laptop, mainly cos it gets too hot!!! The wireless aerial in mine is in the top of the screen anyway, so its the furthest away from the 'bump'.

Yep, we have our wireless passkey protected. It's network name is "Gremlins" teehee.
And SimSam I'm not 100% sure about wireless, but I did work with my laptop right up until I was 33 weeks with the gremlins and I think they're fine
