Topic: We are going to FA again     Posted: 31 January 2010 at 8:04pm |

On friday we are off to FA again (our second visit)

The last time we went they put me on metformin and told me to lose 10kgs. I still have not had AF yet (since going off BCP over a year ago) but i have managed to lose 7kgs which I am sooo happy about.

last time we went they gave us a pile of info on clomid which we will probally go on now since nothing has happened.

Im just wondering.... how much does it cost to do the whole clomid thing???
For those who have tried clomid, how successful was it and how many cycles does it usually take on average for the almighty BFP??

Im excited about possably starting but also kinda nervous at the same time.
give me all the info you can and thanks in advance.

Hi Jen.... i am with fertility plus and clomid is only $3 per script... and $50 for blood monitoring and $50 for scan monitoring, per cycle.  There is a great thread on here called clomid pill poppers and you will see they have a list of those they have been successful with it.

Best wishes

Gosh Shezzey, that's a lot cheaper than FA!

It costs us $240 a month through FA for a monitored cycle (which includes blood tests and scans) and I think $15 per script (which has 3 months worth) of Clomid.

They'll usually start you on quite a low dose of Clomid as they're quite careful to have you not 'overreact' and produce too many follicles, so it can take a while to get the right dosage, and obviously it takes a month per dosage check to get the dosage right. Hopefully they get it right with you first go, but for me they started me on 22.5mgs and I needed to go up to 100mgs before I produced mature follicles. They say the theoretical maximum length of time to stay on Clomid is 6 months, as if it hasn't worked by then it's time to explore other options, but I know some girls are on much less or longer depending on the specialists opinion.

I'm on my last cycle of Clomid now before the almighty wait for IVF, so I'd have to say it hasn't been so successful for us! But in saying that, whilst I've been using it several girls on the thread Shezzey linked have got their BFPs, so it definitely can!

Ceres... i have had government assisted ivf before and that could be a reason why i get it cheaper (it may be subsidised) or it may just be cheaper at Fertility Plus.

I had heard rumours that F+ was cheaper, but I didn't realise just how much! Our government funding approval has come through and we're being transfered there (though still have to deal with a 16mo wait for IVF), but obviously a moot point with costs now! How did you find F+ in general?

Ceres....  I thought they were good.  My advice is to read the IVF booklet well so that you can be prepared and know every stage of the process      The wait may be shorter than you expect
Best Wishes
